This thesis aims to consider phenomena occurred amid the rapid of the changed time system through 'the solar calendar' and ‘weekday system’ officially introduced by King Gojong(高宗) in 1986. Especially, this thesis clarifies how Joseon(韓鮮) people having lived in time system of the lunar calendar are changed in their lives since they were incorporated into 'modern time system' with the focus on novels in the colonial period by illuminating Sunday as a periodic holiday and a symbol that it exposes with the center of 'Sunday' showing the solar calender and weekday system intensively. This is because the creation of novels was mainly started since the introduction of the modern time system, and Joseon immediately met the colonial period since the introduction of the solar system, and because the novel has s characteristic reflecting usual life. First of all, Sunday acted as a religious symbol to Joseon people at the time due to influence of a missionary or believers. In addition, it can be noticed that because Sunday was systematically designated as a 'holiday', these two symbols are often appearing in the novels. Especially, Sunday generated leisure culture with the introduction of various foreign cultures, and the often appears through the shape spending Sunday at a theater or department applied to all Joseon people, so the shape of Sunday is often expressed as different shape from each other according to a class or circumstances. Sunday often appears in the novels through a scene of schools and Sunday schools, and the characters of the novels appear as the shape of isolated other person who doesn't go to school or Sunday school even in Sunday, whereas they appears as characters who keep desire that they want to be regarded in the same light as the characters while feeling 'difference' from persons went to School or Sunday School. And the characters worrying between problems they face and the desire of wanting to enjoy a holiday are often noticed because of the recognition that Sunday is a "holiday". This proves that although Sunday systematically and culturally accompanied various changes as a modem time system after all, there were signifiant persons who cannot be incorporated into the place, so the idea such as ‘holiday’ and ‘filtration’, etc. that implied by ‘Sunday’ acts as an index recognizing ‘difference’ from other persons after all and becomes an element conceiving ‘desire’ to want to become the same as them Especially, the Sunday School is a system showing an enlightenment purpose through several educations, and while Sunday was introduced to Joseon, the Sunday School often arouses ‘association with dazzlement(Verblendungs zusammenhang)’ and plays a role of hiding an imperial government logic through expansion of various systems or cultures. Sunday is a time system keeping significant dynamics in its rear. (Dongguk University)
