파생어의 의미구조핵 설정 가능성

국문 초록

본고는 그 동안 파생어에 관한 논의에서 접미사만을 중심으로 하였던 경향에서 벗어나, 어근이 파생어의 실질적인 의미를 담당하고 있음에 착안하여 파생어를 형태구조층위와 의미구조층위의 이원적 구조로 설정하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 파생어의 접미사를 형태구조핵으로 설정하고 어근을 의미구조핵으로 설정할 것이다. 일부 파생어의 경우 구조상의 중심과 의미상의 중심이 일치하지 않으므로 이를 본고에서 설정한 형태구조핵과 의미구조핵으로 나누어 동시에 설명하고자 한다. 아울러 파생어의 의미가 일정한 구조적 형상으로 포착될 수 있으며 이를 설명하기 위해서는 형태구조층위와 의미구조층위를 나누어 설정하는 것이 효율적임을 보일 것이다. 이를 통해 그간 접미사 중심의 형식적인 논의에서 좀더 확장하여 어근의 실질적인 기능을 부각시키고자 한다.

영문 초록

This paper departs from previous conventional views focusing only on suffixes as heads to show that derived words may have two heads in Korean. Because in derived words the meaning of the root is responsible for the main part of the meaning of the whole word, this paper suggests that the word consists of two different levels of structure. One is the level of morphological structure, and the other is the level of semantic structure. Thus, this paper posits two heads: a morphological structure head and a semantic structure head. Because some derived words pose a problem in that these two different structures (morphological and semantic) do not always coincide, our ‘two heads’ notion can offer a solution to this problem. In addition, this paper offers some ideas on the structural configuration of the meaning of derived words.
