국문 초록

본고는 성호학파의 맹자해석학에 대한 일련의 논문 가운데 하나이다. 성호 이익과 다산 정약용이 주희의 『四書集註』를 극복해 나가는 과정을 『孟子』 ｢盡心上｣ 1장의 해석을 통해 검토한 것이다. 당대 조선에서 절대적인 영향력을 행사한 주희의 『집주』를 넘어서기 위해 성호는 『집주』가 아닌 『語類』의 다른 견해를 채택하여 주희의 견해로 주희의 견해를 극복하는 과정을 보여주었다. 이는 다산에 이르러 경전 텍스트에 대한 비판적 讀法과 宋明理學의 근저를 비판하는 방향으로 발전했다. 성호학파의 이러한 해석적 지향은 구체적 현실에서 실천성을 획득해 나가는 과정이었다. 한편, 이러한 성호학파의 견해를 황종희와 이토진사이의 견해와 비교ㆍ검토해 보면 성호의 해석은 性卽理의 성리학적 패러다임을 온전히 벗어났다고 보기 어렵고, 다산의 해석은 경전의 본의에 비추어 과도한 주견을 제시한 측면이 있다. 청조의 황종희나 일본 고학파의 이토 진사이가 경전의 해석에서 상대적으로 좀 더 자유롭고, 경전을 좀 더 객관적으로 응시했던 점에 비추어 그 강한 실천지향은 주목할 만한 것이다. 이는 역설적으로 조선 학자들의 뇌리에 강한 영향력을 행사했던 주자학의 비중을 확인시켜 주는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study is one of studies on Mencius hermeneutics of Seongho School. It examines the process where Seongho Iik, Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, and Lee Ju-Hee overcome 『Sishujizhu(四書集註)』 through the interpretation of chapter 1 of 『Mencius』 ｢Jinsimsang(盡心上)｣. Seongho showed the process of overcoming ChuHeui according to ChuHeui‘s opinion by adopting a different opinion of 『word class(語類)』 instead of 『a variorum edition』. This was developed to criticize reading of scripture texts and the root of Neo-Confucianism. Such an interpretive way of Seongho school is the process of acquiring practicability in a specific reality. However, the result of comparison and analysis of opinions between Hwang Jong-hee and Ito Jinsai shows it is hard to think that the interpretation of Sengho is totally out of the foundation of Sungjukli(性卽理), and Dasan's interpretation was extremely sensitive according to the real intention of scriptures. Given that Hwang Jong-hee of Qing dynasty and Ito Jinsai of Japanese Kogaku school were relatively free more than Dasan's interpretation in terms of interpretation of scriptures and viewed scriptures more objectively, repulsion of the strong practicability and directivity is emphasized. This is paradoxically to reconfirm the importance of Zhu-Xi studies in Chosun Dynasty.
