영문 초록

『Imkkeokjeong』 is one of a historical novel that was mass-produced much in the newspapersas a serial story in the 1930's. Generally historical novels had filled with fast narration unfolding and love stories between man and woman, extremely delightful revenge spirit, tense feeling exceeded fighting scene etc. And the same to 『Imkkeokjeong』 . Nevertheless, the heroes or heroins of this work weren't the heroes of the history, but were close to people in general. And the definite contrast of good and evil is not for sure. These things make the work more unique than other historical novels. In 『Imkkeokjeong』 the sharp confrontation between the class of powers and the people who are ruled. And this situation of confrontation repeated again in the inner part of the class of powers and inside the people who are ruled as well. Division of good and evil passes over one-to-one simply. Such characteristic of this work can be taken in the situations about circumstances that is happening in that time. Under the sway of Japan since 1910's, the territory of Joseon is marked the local area of Japan and the people of Joseon became colonialized mentally. So the ‘Concept’ of ‘Joseon’, the economy, politics, system of society of Joseon are formed based on those of Japan, or the way Japan wants. The Writer of 『Imkkeokjeong』 , Hong myeong-hui focused on this point, so he created the hero ,『Imkkeokjeong』’ who are virtuous and vllainous simultaneously. and this is very important concept to understand that time accurately and objectively that other authors of the age can get a grip on hardly. The auther warns that the overheated antagonism to Japan and the strong patriotism of resedents in Joseon may deteriorate the purity and justify the cooperation to Japan. And this work shows the objective eye to the situaion of Joseon. The problem about the recovery of Joseon is not only the problem with place but also with the cultural and historical identities. From this work the writer tried to find our own way to call and think Joseon. These viewpoint cannot be connected with problem of the direct and right answer the Joseon's modernization and independence under Japanese imperialism. But it could suggests wise realization of the actuality of Joseon with wide eye transcendental the situation of colonization.
