영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to use the anomie theory to analyze forms of isolation that are depicted in modernist novels of the 1980s, particularly those written by Choi In Hoon, Kim Seung Ok and Lee Cheong Joon. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. 1. Anomie means that no norm exists. It is a state that one wanders without goals and behavioral rules for making his or her life meaningful. Since it reflects rejecting conventional social norms and living a wandering life, anomie can be regarded as one of the forms of isolation that modern people are experiencing. 2. In novels by Choi In Hoon, Kim Seung Ok and Lee Cheon Joon, main characters were all isolated from society as they lost their own goals and behavioral rules for better life and fell into anomie. 3. Through the characters all of whom were in the anomie state, the above three novelists criticized negative aspects of society in their contemporary times and intended to find how to make the society better.
