국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 교육의 시장화 정책의 맥락에서 강화되는 학업성취도 중심의 평가 문화가 우리 학교교육의 주요 목적들에 어떤 영향을 줄 수 있는지를 검토하고 그 중요성을 재성찰해보는 데 있다. 이에 본 연구는 자유교양교육, 시민교육, 전인교육, 직업교육의 네 가지 주요 목적에 초점을 두고 그 목적들에 학업성취도 중심의 평가 문화가 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 첫째, 학업성취결과 중심의 평가 문화는 시험점수 향상이라는 외적인 목적에 다시 집중하게 함으로써, 폭넓은 지식의 습득과 이해, 비판적 탐구자로서의 역할을 어렵게 할 수 있다. 둘째, 시민적 주체보다 소비자 주체를 강조하고,우리의 관심사를 학업 성취도의 유ㆍ불리를 따지는 이해타산에 집중하게 함으로써, 공적인 담론 형성과 시민으로서 갖추어야 할 공적인 능력의 형성을 어렵게 할 수 있다. 셋째, 시험준비 교육에 치중하게 함으로써 다시 주입식 지식교육에 치중하게 하거나 시험에 나오지 않는 영역이나 측정하기 힘든 영역을 교육활동에서 경시하게 함으로써 학생들의 전인적 성장을 위해 필요한 교과 및 교과외경험을 소홀히 하게 할 수 있다. 넷째, 표준화된 교육내용과 평가로 학생들을 획일화하고 그 표준에적응하지 못하는 학생들을 학교에서 소외시킴으로써, 각자의 소질과 적성을 반영한 진로탐색이라는 목적 달성 역시 어렵게 할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In these days, the application of market principle to education is a leading education policy in countries worldwide such as United States, England, Sweden, Japan, etc. Regrettably, the application of market principle to education has lead to academic achievement-based school culture, standards-based tests, and it has influence on aims of schooling that we have pursued. For that reason, by examining the effects of an academic achievement-based school culture that affect our aims of schooling, I hope to reflect the importance of major aims of schooling. The conclusion is summarized as follows: First, we can categorize the major aims of schooling as liberal education, civic education, wholeman education, vocational education. Second, the schooling designed to prepare students for standards-based tests severely limits knowledge and understanding, and leads to neglect the role of student as a critical inquirer. Third, because the standards-based tests are forced to turn our concerns only to test score, the fostering of roles and abilities suitable for a citizen is likely to weaken. Fourth, trying to prepare students to take the standards-based tests reduces the curriculum to only that which is covered on standards-based tests, and this tests limit students learning and their growth as a whole man. The schooling designed to prepare students for standards-based tests doesn't foster deep learning and understanding. Fifth, requiring all students to take the same curriculum and pass the same tests standardizes students with a uniformity. It may cause to difficult to achieve the purpose of vocational education that is suited to student's aptitude and talent.
