한국과 리투아니아 민요의 슬픔의 정서

국문 초록

리투아니아의 민요인 다이나(Daina) 속에 나타나는 슬픔의 모티브를 분석해본다. 가장 한국적인 정서로 알려져 왔던 한(恨)의 정서. 한국이 가지고 있던 특수한 역사적, 정치적 상황 속에서 발생한 것으로 믿는 그 슬픔의 모티브는 다이나 속에 등장하는 시엘바르타스(sielvartas)의 형태와 놀랄 만큼 흡사하다. 일반적으로 경제와 정치적 영향으로 그런 정 서가 발생한다고 믿기 쉬우나, 리투아니아와 비슷한 환경을 공유하고 있는 이웃나라와 비교하여 보아도 다이나의 성격은 아주 특별하다. 리투아니아의 민요를 중점 연구한 외국학자들의 학설을 종합하여 객관적인 배경을 설정한 후, 민요의 주체들과 가장 근접해있는 자연환경을 노래한 민요의 내용분석을 통해서 그 슬픔의 정서의 원형을 살펴본다. 일반적으로 민족이 전쟁나 많은 외침 등 비극적 역사를 거치고 나면 자연발생적으로 나타나는 시성(詩性)이나 정서로 이해하기 쉬우나, 동유럽에서 그와 비슷한 역사를 거친 나라에서는 그런 현상이 꼭 일어나지는 않는 것으로 보아 정치적 역사적 요소로 단정짓기에는 무리가 있다. 만약 그러한 것이 민족간 교류나 영향에 의한 것이라면 주변 국가에서도 그런 양상이 많이 나타나야 하겠지만, 서구 학자들의 말을 빌어보면 이 역시 리투아니아 만의 상당히 독특한 현상으로 문화교류에 의한 현상으로 해석하는 것은 논리에 어긋난다. 상당히 멀리 떨어져있는 리투아니아와 한국간의 공통적인 슬픔의 정서는, 그 사람들의 사고방식을 규정짓는데 큰 역할을 하는 구비문학의 배경에서 그 근거를 찾아야한다. 종교나 주류문학보다 사람들의 가장 근본적인 생활모습을 만들어내는 민속환경이 집단적 정서를 만들어낸 것이다. 그러므로 민족 구성원들의 사고방식과 그 틀에서 공통점을 끄집어 내어 각 민족의 구비문학 (주로 민속시를 중심으로) 속에 나타나는 슬픔의 정서와 표현법을 분석비교해본다. 그와 함께 구체적인 민속적 양상을 통해서 사회적 역사적 배경을 유추비교하며 양국간 전통적 역사적 교류가 없는 두 민족간에 비슷한 문화양상이 나타나게 되는 이유를 고찰해보고, 이웃 국가간 민속비교만이 아닌 지리적으로 멀리 떨어진 두 나라간 민속비교연구가 가능한지도 알아볼 수 있다. 그리고 리투아니아 민요 속에 나타나는 슬픔의 정서의 아름다움과 그 기능, 현대문화에의 영향들은 우리나라의 한의 정서와도 비교해 본다.

영문 초록

The aim of the comparative folklore is to analyse the similarity or the relationship of nations, mostly adjacent to each other, in order to discover the mutual influence or exchange of culture. There is nothing surprising to find a few affinities in folkloric aspects amongst the nations in neighborhood. But is it possible to conclude that two nations, located afar from each other in the vast distance, can lie under the same sphere of influence? If some affinities are found in their oral poetry or folklore, is it the result of mutual relationship or nothing but the simple coincidence? The motive of Sadness, which was said to be very unique Korean emotion, is also found in Lithuanian folksongs, called Daina. It would be far fetched to say that such similarity stemmed from the mutual relationship or the exchange of culture between two countries, taking in account the vast distance and the lack of actual exchange between both countries in history. Moreover the motive of sadness is not that often perceived in the oral poetries of neighboring countries of Lithuania, like Latvia and Poland. Presumably this can be understood in this way that they would have formed due to the similar political or historical background, but actually we have to find out the basic reason in other side, not in the outer resources. Lithuania is known for its beautiful folksongs Daina which attracted number of artists and the researchers of Western Europe. Lots of scholars, who did research works on Lithuanian folklore since the 19 century, tend to say that daina is rather gloomy, full of sad expressions and texts (it is true that there ARE repertoires which don't contain the sad mood as well). Even some Lithuanian artist, who are still engaged in dainas, themselves state that Lithuanian daina demand the different type of understanding or harmony. Lithuanian word which can be used for this peculiar mood can be Sielvartas, composed of two Lithuanian words; siela, the mind and vertas, from the verb verstis, to turn over violently. The similar concept in Korea is Han. It also refers to the state of mind disturbed and harmed by exterior factors. Sielvartas and Han, both words are strongly connected with the mental disorders. Songs ridden with Sielvartas and Han compose the majority of Lithuanian and Korean folksongs, and they still have the influence on the modern art. Certainly this is not the fruit of mutual relationship or exchange of culture, not definitely the result of severe political and historical hardship, which both nations had to go through in last centuries, since not all nations of similar historical background don't share the analogous result. I tried to pick out elements which would make influence on the mood of Lithuanian daina and the common factors appearing in Korean customs and lifestyle as well. First of all. the performing body of folksongs in Lithuania is different from that of Western Europe. It was created mainly by the peasants and women living in the countryside, so their songs are rich in the expression reflecting the mental status of singers. They tried to solve out their literary instinct, restricted by many outer factors, through folksongs, and their traditional belief, transferred in songs, carry the concept and ideology of the ancient time, even before the time when the Baltic tribes were formed. And Lithuanians have the tendency to cling to the family relationship. That attachment bears the endless nostalgia and yearning for his or her homeland for the whole life. The function of traditional belief of Lithuania is also enormous that it can be comparable with the function of shamans, who made the contribution to the formation of folk art in Korea.
