차펙의 단편집 <두 호주머니 이야기>에 나타난 주제와 모티프 연구

국문 초록

<첫 번째 호주머니 이야기>와 <두 번째 호주머니 이야기>는 1929년에 출판되었다. 두 단편집에서 차펙은 범죄를 다루는 경찰과 형사의 추리기법과 인식론 철학의 문제를 다루어 단편소설의 새로운 가능성을 보여주었다. 두 호주머니 이야기 시리즈에서 차펙은 인식론의 문제에 대한 자신의 관심으로부터 유래된 범죄의 탐정의 주제에 사로잡혔다. 그러나 범죄의 주제들은 그를 정의의 문제로 인도하였다. 범죄의 형이상학적인 문제를 그는 초기 단편집 <길가 십자가>에서 이미 다루었던 것이다. 물론 두 호주머니 이야기에서는 인식론의 문제를 다루고 있지만 윤리적인 요소가 지배적이다. 차펙의 단편들에 등장하는 탐정들은 신뢰할 수 있는 상황에서 행동하고 보다 더 실제 상황 같다. 차펙은 단편소설의 영감을 대부분 신문기사를 쓰면서 얻어서 인지 실질적인 현실감이 넘치는 픽션들이다. 이 두 권의 단편 시리즈에 나오는 다양한 주제들과 모티프들은 이야기들을 어떤 특정한 그룹으로 분리하기에 어려운 점을 야기시킨다. 일반적으로 정의 문제 외에 범죄와 처벌, 인간 성격의 결점들이 차펙 풍자의 대상들이다. 작가는 <푸른 국화> 등에서 보여준 인간 이성의 한계라든가 <야닉씨의 경우>나 <시인>처럼 직관의 중요성을 잘 형상화하고 있다. 보통사람의 직관(본능)이 계산된 이 성보다 더 나을 수도 있다는 점을 강조한다. 여러 단편에서 경구적, 종교적, 압축의 형식을 띤 독특한 문체를 보여준다. 읽는 재미와 느끼는 재미와 놀이로서의 소설 등 예술의 기능 면에서 두 주머니 이야기 시리즈는 훌륭한 작품이다. 차펙은 단편 소설이 필요로 하는 간결성과 표현의 직접성이 그의 문체에 잘 표현되고 있다. 역설의 사용 외에도 대비도 또 다른 문체적인 고안이다. 단편집에서 본격적으로 다루기 시작한 차펙의 구어체 언어는 이야기의 생동감과 가독성을 증폭시켜서 독자들에게 큰 호평을 받았을 뿐만 아니라 이는 체코 문학의 새로운 가능성이었다.

영문 초록

Tales from One Pocket and Tales from the Other Pocket were published in 1929. Čapek showed the new possibility of short story writing by dealing dictative technique of police and epistemology problem of philosophy in his pocket story series . Čapek was fascinated by themes of detective on crime originated from his own interest in the understanding of knowledge in his pocket story series. Themes of crime, however, lead him to the problem of justice. He already dealt metaphysical problems of crime in his early short story collection, Wayside story. Of cause he also deals the epistemology problem of philosophy, but the ethical elements are more dominant in these pocket series. The detectives who appear in pocket series act in the reliable situation. Čapek's short stories are fictions with realistic situations, because he got inspiration for the stories from his experience of journalist. It is difficult to classify into special groups of various motifs and themes which appear in these short stories. In general weakness of human character, crime and punishment beside problem of justice are the objects of Čapek's satire. The boundary of human being’s reason in The Blue Chrysanthemums, The Strange Experiences of Mr. Janik and The Poet shows the importance of objectivity. It emphasizes that ordinary man's intuition can be better than well calculated reason. Special linguistic styles of epigram, religious compact forms are used in various stories. Pocket story series are excellent literary works in the aspect of the function of art as enjoyable reading, playful stories. Concise style and directness of expression which are necessity of short story well exposed in his literary style. Contrast as well as using paradox is another stylistic device. Colloquial languages which he used in these stories amplified vividness and readability of story and thus this received not only popularity from readers but also showed a new possibility of Czech literature.
