유고슬라비아 구비문학의 종교적 기호와 상징체계 연구

국문 초록

‘종교적 상징’이 갖는 기본적 의의는 어떠한 실체가 내적으로 지니고 있는 근원적 의미를 겉으로 드러내 보이는 것이라 할 수 있는데, 이를 통해 인간이 그 해당 실체에 대해 지니고 있는 본질적이며 궁극적인 관념과 형상에 다가설 수 있다. 하지만 종교적 상징이 우리가 전혀 상상할 수 없는 모습으로, 즉 추상적인 형태로써만 존재하는 것은 아니며, 인간이 사용하는 일상적인 언어와 일상생활과 같은 어렵지 않게 접근할 수 있는 것들로 구성되어져 있다는 점에서 본 연구의 긍정적인 기제로 작용할 수 있다. 구 유고슬라비아 지역의 구비문학작품에 내재되어 있는 종교적 요소들에 대해 고찰하는 본 연구에서는 특히 세르비아와 크로아티아 구비문학의 갈래들 가운데 구비서정시, 구비서정-서사시,구비신화 작품들의 예시를 통해 구체적인 종교적 요소들을 파악하고자 했다. 종교적 상징성은 다른 상징들과 마찬가지로 인간의 삶이 지니고 있는 의미뿐만 아니라 자연과 우주의 질서와 의미 전체를 내포하고 있다. 동유럽 민족들에게 있어 겉으로 명백히 드러나 그 의미를 어렵지 않게 추론할 수 있는 종교의 겉모습은 보편종교인 기독교적인 의미를 담고 있으며, 그 안에서 근원적이며 궁극적인 의미라고 할 수 있는 민간신앙적인 의미를 찾아낼 수 있다. 본고에서는 구 유고슬라비아 지역, 특히 세르비아와 크로아티아 지역에서 구비 전승되고 있는 구비문학작품들을 대상으로 작품 안에 녹아 있는 종교적 성격에 대해 살펴보았다. 구비신화작품들에서는 중세보편종교가 전파되기 이전에 이미 민간에 널리 퍼져있었던 자연물에 대한 경외심과 이들 자연물을 초자연적인 힘을 가진 신들이 제어할 것이라는 믿음, 즉 다신에 대한 신앙이 주류를 이뤘던 반면에, 구비시가, 특히 구비서정시를 시작으로 구비서정·서사시를 거치며 점차 중세보편종교인 기독교의 영향이 확인되고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

It is characteristic of the serbian and croatian oral lyric poetry that it expresses emotion through external events, usually in an indirect way. In the earliest periods it expressed the wishes, requests, joy and sadness of the collective, and later it included individual emotions well. The indirect and objective means of expression in the serbian and croatian lyric poetry, manifests itself in the complete saturation and unity of its content and form. In oral lyric songs the events are only a tool for the expression of emotions, thus demanding of the singer that he search for the most suitable parallel event or description which will express that emotion. Before Christianity is accommodated, Ancient Slavic people, especially South Slavic people had a tendency to lean their lives on natural phenomena and the natural environment, and they personified almost natural things by bringing in of souls. Folk beliefs of ancient Slavic people on natural things had undergone a change by the propagation and the acceptance of Christianity. ‘Religious Symbol’ which is included in serbian and croatian oral literature has two sides of characteristics. The First is the connotation about the meaning of human life and the meaning of the cosmic system. And the second is the Christianity that is accommodated after the Middle Ages in the Balkan Peninsula. Specifically, this study looks into the essential religious elements and meanings through the several serbian oral poetry and croatian myth.
