국문 초록

이야기 속에 등장하는 인물의 모습은 실제 인물에 대한 평가와 이해에 따라 다양하게 변모되어 나타난다. 따라서 설화를 살펴보는 것은 인물에 대한 향유층의 인식을 살펴보는 좋은 방법이 된다. 여기서는 정몽주와 관련된 구비 설화를 역사적 사실은 바탕으로 한 ‘역사적 행적담’과 역사적 사실과 관련이 없는 ‘탈역사적 異人談’으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 역사적 행적담에서는 주로 정몽주의 탄생과 죽음에 관련된 이야기들이 중심이 된다. 인물의 탄생과 죽음 과정을 어떻게 그려내는가는 인물에 대한 인식과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 출생 과정에서 드러나는 비일상성과 초월성은 인물의 뛰어난 능력을 보장하고 앞으로의 행동에 대한 정당성을 보장한다. 그리고 비극적이고 숭고한 죽음은 인물의 삶에 대한 향유층의 인식이 직접 반영된 결과이다. 역사적 행적과 관련이 없는 탈역사적 이인담에서 다루어지는 인물의 삶이나 행적은 실제 사실과는 별개로 이야기를 전승하는 구연자의 인식과 필요에 따라 다양하게 나타날 수 있다. 따라서 이야기의 내용이나 구성이 매우 다변적인 것이 특징이다. 탈역사적 이인담에 나타나는 정몽주의 모습은 비범한 능력으로 세상을 바꾸는 영웅이라기보다 異人이라 할 수 있다. 이인은 당장 현실에 관여하지는 않지만 언젠가는 부조리한 현실을 바로잡을 수 있는 능력을 지닌 인물이다. 이는 끝내 현실을 개혁하지는 못했지만 변치 않는 가치를 인정받고 있는 정몽주의 정신에 대한 향유층의 인식을 잘 반영하고 있는 이야기이다.

영문 초록

The feature of a character in a tale transforms in various ways according to the valuation and understanding of the actual person. Therefore, it could be a suitable method to understand of the actual person. Therefore, it could be a suitable method to understand the tale itself to comprehend the enjoyers' perception of the figure. This paper will look into the oral traditional tale of Jeong Mong-ju by separating the tale into two sections: the historical achievement story which is based on the historical fact, and the a historical tale of a genius that is unrelated to the actual history. The historical achievement story of Jeong Mong-ju mainly deals with his birth the course to death is closely related to the valuation on the person. The figure's bizarreness and superiority at birth guarantee the superb ability, and also justify the future behaviors by him or her. Moreover, the tragic and noble death of the person is a result that reflects the perception of enjoys toward the person's life. In the a historical tale of a genius that is unrelated to the historical achievement, the life and achievements of a character can be expressed in a various way depending on the perception and the need of person who tell the story regardless of any historical facts. Therefore, the variety of contents and compositions of the story is the special feature in this sort. The feature of Jeong Mong-ju shown in the a historical tale of a genius is rather a prodigy than a hero who changes the world with his extraordinary power. A prodigy does not take part in reality directly, but has an excellent potential to reform the social irregularities. This story reflects the perception of enjoyers in Jeong Mong-ju's spirit that failed to achieve the social reform but is sill valued among people.
