국문 초록

포은의 모습은 크게 세 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 변함없는 志節을 지닌 인물이다. 성리학적 가치기준을 설정하고 이 원칙에 충실했던 인물이다. 원칙에서 벗어나는 일은 타협하지 않으며, 대의명분을 중시한 인물이다. 둘째는 사사로운 黨與를 만들지 않는다는 점이다. 公私가 분명하고 中庸의 태도를 견지한 그의 성품은 무리를 지어 일을 도모하는 방식을 선호하지 않았다. 셋째는 완벽을 지향하는 인물이다. 개인적으로는 호방한 성격과 뛰어난 언변, 상대를 설득하는 논리성, 그리고 상대의 마음을 움직이는 문장과 국제적인 감각까지 갖춘 인물이다. 포은은 不偏不黨하게 正道를 지키다 배운 바를 실천에 옮겨 순절한 大人이었다. 열전의 포은에 대한 언급은 전후 문맥이 전혈 다르다. 이는 포은에 대한 사관의 정당한 평이라 할 만하다. 태조가 아낀 인물이라는 점을 강조하면서도 ‘난세에 처해 큰 일을 처리하고 큰 의심을 결단하는데 모두 적당함을 얻었다’고 했다. 포은은 實踐躬行의 자세를 지니고 기울어 가는 고려사직을 회복하기 위해 온 몸을 던졌다. 「高麗史」 열전에는 포은의 시문을 ‘豪放峻潔’하다고 했다. 그런데 현전 포은의 漢詩 가운데는 호방한 풍격을 현저히 드러내는 시는 그리 많지 않다. 필자는 포은의 시를 1) 豪放詩, 2) 使行詩, 3) 思鄕詩로 나누어 살폈다. ‘호방’이라는 말은 포은시의 대명사로 많은 학자들이 지적한 평어이다. 그러나 호방시에는 겉으로 드러난 호기 외에 이면에 자리한 憂愁도 엿보인다. 使行詩는 포은의 역할과 경륜으로 볼 때 중요한 의미가 있다. 포은은 외교에 능했고, 문장이 탁월했으며, 논리정연한 언변으로 많은 성과를 거두었다. 사행시는 겉으로는 긍지와 報國의 의미가 강하지만, 이면에는 가족이나 고향에 대한 향수를 노래한 것도 감지된다. 思鄕詩는 포은의 현실지향적인 입장에서 보면 호방시에 대비된다. 思鄕詩는 사행을 하면서, 혹은 이념과 현실 간에 갈등을 느끼면서 가족과 고국에 대한 근원적인 향수를 담아 지은 시다

영문 초록

According to some archives, three points can feature Poeun's(圃隱) character. Firstly he is a man of endless loyalty. His behavior was consistent with his scholarship. He set his own value-standard and kept his principle as possible as he could. Therefore he world not cooperate anything that could run counter to his principle and loyalty. As a result he is regarded as a typical loyal subject throughout Ko-ryo(高麗) dynasty and Cho-sun(朝鮮) dynasty. Secondly he didn't form a faction in political party. Though we can find one document called Koryosa(高麗史) which reveals that he had some connection with a faction, but this document was written carelessly. It would be more reasonable that they are the people who were impressed by his character and followed him naturally. He had not enough time to form a faction in his party because of a long international official trip. And as he kept his private and public life clearly separate and tried to be neutral in any political case, so it didn't suit on his character that he tried to do something accompanying his followers. We can confirm this point through one example - Once a chance for recovering loyal power was given to him. But as he tried to do it with just his own personal ability not depending on other's power, he couldn't make it after all. Thirdly he was an perfectionist. He was wide-minded and had a great eloquence and logic to persuade others. He was also quite good at writing and global mind. He was not reluctant to take international official trips that others didn't like. And through the course that he got achievement we can find out that he was a great subject with a royal mind. But as is the case with perfectionist, his temper which could be developed into arrogant mind also drove himself isolated from others. According to Koryosa he was so stubborn that he liquidated everyone who had been against him, which means he also had this kind of dark-sided tendency. I classified Poeun's poems into three parts - 1) free-hearted )豪放詩), 2) international official trip(使行詩), 3) missing home(思鄕詩). These three types are main contents of his chinese character poem. His poems are generally wide-scaled. They also include experience from international official trip and homesickness. Studies on Poeun(圃隱) is being proceeded under present conditions. About 150 papers on it have been written and there are some active researches about Poeun in the province near from the relics of Poeun. Recently an academic meeting for Poeun has been organized and a book called Research on Poeun Studies(圃隱學硏究) has been published. It heated researches on Poeun Studies. We are expecting that we can get at least more ting 20 papers about Poeun per year. The most urgent problem is complementing the collection of its works and translating its accurately. And we should keep absolutely objective point of view when we estimate him. We need an open-minded attitude which can accept any criticism on Poeun's achievement and fault. Most of all, this what Jong-Yak-won(宗約院) or Poeun's descendents should do first. After systematically accomplishing these two tasks, academic Poeun award should be offered and Poeun research institute should be established so that we can distribute Poeun studies abroad through expanding this business.
