K-웹툰의 장르적 특성을 반영한 번역 전략연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 K-콘텐츠의 수출이 지속적으로 증가하고 있는 가운데 통계자료를 통해 북미권의 영향력이 크다는 것을 관찰했다. 특히, 웹툰의 성장률이 급격히 증가한 것을 살펴볼 수 있었는데 이와 더불어서 한영 웹툰 번역도 동시에 중요성과 관심도 커졌다. 이러한 점에서 K-콘텐츠 가운데 소설과 웹툰을 비교하여 웹툰의 특성을 분석하였다. 소설의 대화문 번역과 웹툰의 대화문 번역을 비교한 결과, 행갈이 부분에서는 한영 번역에서는 소설과 유사하게 적용되었다. 또한, 비속어 번역과 관련하여 웹툰에서는 한국어판의 ‘ㅈ ㄹ’이라는 비속어의 초성을 사용한 것을 관찰할 수 있는데 한국어판의 ‘ㅈ ㄹ’의 적절한 등가를 살리지 못하고 번역한 것을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 또한, 한국어 소설 원문에서는 초성만을 사용하여 비속어를 표현하는 경우는 없었다.

영문 초록

This research observed that amidst the continuous increase in the export of K-content, the influence of the North American market is significant according to statistical data. Particularly notable was the rapid growth in webtoons, accompanied by a simultaneous increase in the importance and interest in the translation of Korean webtoons into English. In this regard, an analysis was conducted comparing the characteristics of novels and webtoons among K-content. Comparing the translation of dialogue in novels and webtoons, it was observed that indentation was applied similarly in Korean-to-English translation for both novels and webtoons. Additionally, concerning the translation of slang, in webtoons, it was observed that the initial consonants of the Korean slang 'ㅈ ㄹ' were used, indicating an inadequate preservation of the appropriate equivalence of 'ㅈ ㄹ' in the Korean version. Moreover, there were no instances in the original Korean novel text where only initial consonants were used to express slang.
