영문 초록

The recent development of mass media tends to contribute to the neglect and underestimation of children's stories in terms of touching qualities and emotions. Since video culture is part of the vast flow dominating the modern world, there is a definite need to actively accept it. But it should be also noticed that it can also raise many issues like the underestimation and reduction of the roles of children's stories among the diverse genres of literature. This study started with that perception of the problem and was propelled by the expectation that the effects of children's stories and video culture could be maximized by comparing and integrating them. In that sense, the investigator chose Oseam by Jeong Chae-gong for its popularity among kids and its huge influences on them, as well as Oseam, the animation produced in 2002 based on the children's story for comparison and analysis purposes. Chapter II of 'Analysis of the children's story Oseam and the animation Oseam in terms of meanings' investigated the concepts and characteristics of children's stories. The characteristics of Oseam as a children's story were examined in the aspect of children's minds, prose poems, and fantasy. Then the children's story was compared with the tale Oseam. Then I moved to the concepts and characteristics of animation and analyzed the animation Oseam in terms of production process, background, picture, and color. Chapter III of 'Analysis of the children's story Oseam and the animation Oseam in terms of meanings according to the genre and medium differences' compared and analyzed how the two works differed according to the genres and media. And Chapter V of 'Analysis of the children's story Oseam and the animation Oseam in terms of meanings according to narrative methods' compared the two works in terms of structure, uses of materials and characters and examined their meanings and influences. While the children's story Oseam showed great harmony among children's minds, the characteristics of a prose poem, and fantasy, the animation Oseam well delivered such topics as the restoration of children's minds and the salvation of Buddha's spirit. The dominating consciousness of the subject of the animation was 'a journey to find Mom.' The genre differences between the children's story and the animation are observed in the setting where Gilsoni was taken to the small Buddhist temple, the scene where Gami opened the eyes, and the sentence- and conversation-based literary style. The media differences between the two works involve new characters in the animation, the different time, space, and backgrounds, and the conclusions. And the narration differences between them can be categorized into structure, uses of materials, and characters; as for structure, while the children's story Oseam saw the events take place in a sequential flow of time, the animation Oseam employed the method of reversion; as for uses of materials, the animation made detailed use of the backgrounds and colors unlike the children's story; and as for characters, the animation's characters failed to get close to the audience due to the same size as humans. Thus the director's devices to supplement the problem were examined.
