국문 초록

작가의 원체험이었던 6․25가 한승원 소설에서 반복적으로 재현될 때, 우리가 주목할 것은 원체험 자체의 실제성이 아니라 그것이 재현되는 방식이다. 본고는 작가체험의 사후성의 논리로 설명되는 1970년대 후반 작품인 연작 『안개바다』의 「석유등잔불」(1976), 「안개바다」(1978), 「꽃과 어둠」(1979)를 중심으로 주체의 불안과 성장 연구에 대해 살펴보았다. 이 소설들에서 한승원은 전쟁의 폐해를 직접 드러내기보다는 폭력적인 전후 현실이 인물에게 미치는 영향을 간접적으로 묘파하면서, 그 안에서 삶을 이어가는 주체의 모습을 통해 불안의 문제에 천착해간다. 텍스트 내에서 불안의 심리는 주체와 타자가 관계를 맺는 과정에서 발생하며 그 안에서 욕망과 향락의 발현과정을 추측해 보는 것은 기존의 논의에서 더 나아가 한승원 텍스트를 새롭게 볼 수 있는 계기를 마련해 줄 것이다. 『안개소설』의 연작에서는 전쟁으로 인한 심리적인 불안을 극복하고 주체의 성숙에 이르는 성장소설의 면모를 보여준다. 연작소설 『안개바다』의 「석유등잔불」과 「안개바다」에서 주인공 식의 가족은 ‘반동자’로 낙인찍혀 공동체에서 배제된다. 반동자의 정체성을 확인 받을 때마다 식은 전형적인 신호불안의 증후를 보인다. 식의 불안은 이데올로기를 선택하지 못하는 아버지로 인해 거세위협에 직면한 ‘죽음’이 근저를 이룬다. 상징적인 아비부재로 말미암아 식은 인공치하나 경찰치하에서 울력에 동원되면서 ‘어른－되기’를 강요받는다. ‘어른－되기’로 인해 전쟁의 현실에 직접 노출되는 식에게 세계는 자아를 밀어내고 소외시키는 공간으로 인식된다. 연작 『안개 바다』에서 식이 겪는 역사적 현실의 서사 축을 지연시키는 것은 성적인 체험이다. 어린 주체에게 성적인 욕망은 호기심과 함께 타자에 의해 타율적으로 접하기에 자연스럽게 욕망을 통제할 기회를 박탈당하고 타자의 욕망에 흡수될 위험을 느끼게 한다. 이때 주체를 불안을 떠안기 위한 시도로 내재된 초자아를 소환하거나 스스로 상황의 진행을 차단하기 위해 애쓰게 된다. 주체는 불안을 받아들임으로써 완벽한 향유를 포기하고 결여를 받아들이며 분열된 주체($)로 이행하게 된다. 식이 죽음에 대한 공포를 극복하는 과정은 꿈을 통한 간접 체험으로 드러난다. 현실에서 죽음을 목격한 식은 꿈속에서 죽음과 재회한다. 입사식과 같이 물속에서 죽음을 체험하고 깨어난 식의 상태는 키르케고르의 자유를 획득하기 위한 시련과 고난의 상태인 ‘꿈꾸는 상태’와 동궤를 이룬다. 성과 현실 세계의 애도를 거치면서 성숙을 향해 나아가는 식은 차츰 이데올로기의 선택에 따른 책임을 깨달아간다. 아울러 그를 불안하게 했던 아버지를 이해하면서 부정했던 부권의 권위를 회복해 나간다. 오이디푸스적 질서를 회복해가는 식의 깨달음은 상징계적인 질서로의 진입을 의미하며 인물의 성장을 보여준다.

영문 초록

When 6․25, in which author’s original experience, keeps reappearing in Han seung won’s novel, the thing we have to pay attention to is not the reality of the original experience of 6․25 but the way of reappearing 6․25 in his works. The manuscript is looking into the anxiety and the maturity of the subject from the work of the late 70’s series of novels 『a sea of fog』, 「a lamplight of petroleum」(1976), 「a sea of fog」(1978), 「flowers and darkness」(1979), in which can be explained by the author’s post traumatic experience. In these novels, Han seung won is describing indirectly how the violent postwar days can affect the character rather than displaying directly as to the bad effect of the war. Han seung won is also attempt to approach the anxiety of the character’s within. The psychological anxiety in han seung won’s novels, is generated by the relationship between the character and the others. When desire and pleasure revealed within his work, those can provide us an opportunity to study Han seung won’s work from a different point of view. The series of novels of 『a sea of fog』shows the aspect of Bildungsroman which depicts the overcome of anxiety toward war and how to come to maturity of the protagonist. From the series of novels 『a sea of fog』, 「a lamplight of petroleum」, 「a sea of fog」, the main character Sik and his family were branded as reactionist and removed from the community. Whenever he realize his true identity as a reactionist , he shows the symptoms of signal anxiety. Sik’s fear lies in ‘death’ facing castration because his father could not choose ideology. The back room which appears through out the series of novels, was used as a shelter for all fathers from the peasant’s revolt in 1886, compulsory draft under the rule of Japanese imperialism in Korea to 6․25 Korean civil war. Dun to the absence of a symbolic father figure, Sik was forced to be treated as ‘to become’ which is the term used by Gilles Deleuze(French Philosopher) by forced labor under the rule of communism and police. Little Sik was placed in the fear of death because of his father’s social standing (a village headman while under the rule of japanese imperialism in Korea) and his brother in law who was a member of the people’s party. In a situation of being questioned often about his father and brother in law and a series of repeated traumatic injuries, Sik becomes so insecure of unknown uneasiness toward other’s desire and helplessness of being excluded from the community that he takes cognizance of the world as a place of pushing out and alienating his ego. In the series of novels, 『a sea of fog』, having sexual experience with sister Soon-Yi makes sik becomes aware of sex. It is a moment that sik feels sexual desire and guilt at the same time. To have a sexual desire along with curiosity for sex could make an immature subject to feel rather difficult to control his passions and possibly in danger to be assimilated into other’s desire. In order to embrace the subject’s anxiety, the protagonist tries to summon superego or to stop the progress of a situation. The subject disrupted by accepting the anxiety and the perfect enjoyment. Consequently, the subject can go into the symbolic system. This particular process is well depicted in the last part of the series in 「flowers and darkness」 The separation between sister Soon-Yi and sik can be symbolized as the fog of sea in hanul-jae. As metonymy of sea , the fog contains the sound of agonizing pain of life and war. After the separation from the painful reality, Sik as though gone through the initiation rite, starts to consider death in positive perspective through his sister’s resurrection in his dream. The mourning work through his sister means farewell to the violent masculine order and the distorted sexual experience from war.
