명청시기 중한 지리지에 기술된 백두산과 수계

국문 초록

본 논문은 명청시기 한중 양국의 관·사찬 지리서에 기술된 백두산과 3대 수계 압록강 · 송화강 · 두만강에 대해 살펴보았다. 중국의 경우 명대의「명일통지」, 청대의 「성경통지」·「청일통지」·「고금도서집성」·「황여전람도」· 제소남의 「수도제강」에 기술된 백두산과 3대 수계를 통해, 이들 지리서의 상관관계 및 그 속에 나타난 산천인식과 국경인식에 대해 살펴보았다. 한국의 경우 조선 초기 관찬지리서 「동국여지승람」의 백두산에 대한 기술을 통해 「명일통지」의 영향을 엿볼 수 있었으며, 강희 51년(1712)정계 시 두만강 수원이 잘못 정해짐과 아울러 「명일통지」에 대한 고식적인 태도로 인하여 두만강 수원에 대한 회의적인 태도와 토문·두만 2강 인식이 생겨나게 되었음을 살펴보았다. 청대에 이르러 청조 발상지인 성경지역에 대한 중시도가 높아져「성경통지」·「청일통지」의 백두산과 수계에 대한 기술의 정확도가 높아졌으며, 이는 조선 학자들이 토문·두만 2강 인식을 극복하는데 유리하였다. 18세기 관찬지리서인 「여지도서」와 19세기 후반 김정호가 편찬한 것으로 알려진 「대동여지전도」를 통해 압록강·두만강 국경인식이 확고하게 자리잡혔음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the geographical works of China and Korea mentioning about Paekdu Mountain and Yalu, Songhwa and Tomen Rivers. From the exploration of Myongiltongji of Ming Dynasty and Sunggyeongtongji, Chungiltongji, Gogeumdoseojipsung, Hwangyogeonllamdo and Sudojegang of Qing Dynasty, their textual interconnectedness and the contemporary view of environments an national boundaries are derived. The reading of Mt. Paekdu on Donggukyojiseungllam of early Chosun Dynasty makes it clear that this official geographical volume was influenced by Myongiltongji, Also acknowledged is that the falsely located headwaters of Tomen at the time of settling the China-Korea boundary in 1712 and the superficial attitude toward Myongiltongji conspired to make Tomun and Tomen Rivers different entities. Once in Qing Dynasty, however, the high priority given to Senyang of Qing's heartland helped to enhance the reality of the description about. Mt. Paekdu in Sunggyeongtongji and Chungiltongji. This in turn led Chosun's scholars to believe Tomun and Tomen as one. Yojidoseo and Daedongyojijeondo lend the impression that the consciousness of Yalu and Tomen Rivers as national boundaries was laid on a strong hold around the 18th century.
