고지명 데이터베이스를 통한 19세기 지명의 지역별·유형별 분포 특징

국문 초록

「해동지도」(18세기 중반)와 「1872년 지방지도」는 조선후기 대표적인 군현지도집이고, 「청구도」(1834).「동여도」(1850년대).「대동여지도」(1861)는 조선의 지도 제작 수준을 한 단계 높였다고 평가되는 전국지도이다. 고지도가 당시의 지역정보를 알려주는 방식은 주로 지명을 통해서이고, 지명이 역사적 문화적 요소라는 점에서 고지명부터 데이터베이스로 구축될 필요가 있다. 이들 5종의 지도에는 모두12만개의 지명이 수록되어 있으며, 이들을 1단계 행정·자연·인문지명부터 3단계까지 유형을 분류하였다. DB구조의 골격은 모든 지명에 군현 단위까지의 공간값, 발간시점으로 채택된 시간값, 그리고 유형코드로 주제값을 부여하는 것으로 세웠다. 자료별로는 「동여도」가, 지역별로는 경기·충청·황해도가 지명수록에 일관성을 유지한 것으로 판단된다. 지명유형은 1단계 세 유형이 모두 30%대를 차지하여 편차가 크지 않다. 자연지명 중에서는 산지지명이 압도적으로 많고, 인문지명은 경제·교통·군사·문화지명 네 유형이 99%를 차지하는 가운데 각 유형이 모두 20%대를 점유하면서 전체적으로 고른 분포를 보인다.

영문 초록

This paper looks at the placenames found from the five different versions of traditional maps of Korea, with emphasis on their regional distribution and typical features. In a sense, the placenames serve as a sort of barometer for measuring geographical and cultural features of a specific location or area from a spatiotemporal perspective. They thus need to be classified in temporal order. The geographical names collected from the five traditional maps of Korea, about 120 thousand names in all, are classified into three types in this paper: all of the placenames are first placed under one of the three categories such as administrative, physical, and human placename, each of which is also subdivided into two types. Each placename has two dimensions, time and space:the former refers to the time in which the map providing the placenames was printed, and the latter indicates the county in which the placename is included. The analysis of those traditional placenames, in this paper, relies on this database compiled in three dimensions: time, space, and theme.
