지명 경관을 통한 장소 의미의 구성

국문 초록

본고에서는 지명을 장소를 형성하는 의미 있는 경관 요소로 보고 그것이 장소 의미구성에서 어떤 위상을 가지는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 마을 단위에서 확인되는 지명 사례를 두 가지 이론적 차원에서 접근하였다. 먼저 금산의 ‘不二里’를 사례로 경관텍스트로서의 지명에 대한 解釋을 통해 장소를 지시하는 단일 지명이 그것을 매개로 형성되는 사회적 관계에서 어떤 의미를 구성하며 역할을 수행하는지 주목하였다. 다음으로 논산 병사리의 丙舍, 酉峰, 宗學 세 지명을 사례로 장소 의미 구성에서 장소를 형성하는 실제 현상들의 언어적 표현인 지명들 간의 이웃관계(배치)에 관심을 가졌다. 이를 통해 지명이 단순히 지표상의 자연, 인문현상이나 일정 경계에 의해 구분되는 지역 또는 장소를 지시하는 것으로 그 기능을 다하지 않음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

As elements of the meaningful landscape, place-names can play important roles for constructing the meaning of place. This paper, based on the study of two cases in Chungnam Province, addressed the relation between place-names and the meaning of place. For this purpose, firstly I focused on how a single place-name which indicates a village(called 'Buli') constructed the meaning of place and realized the intention of any social group through the interpretation of it as a landscape text. Secondly, it was needed to explore the linguistic disposition or vicinity among three place-names(called 'Byeongsa', 'Yubong', 'Jonghak'). For, from the approach of structuralism or post structuralism, this kind of spatial disposition constructs the meaning of place where those place-names have been used for a long time. In short, it could be important to interpret various meanings of place-names beyond the simple function as a linguistic indication, I think, to reveal any hidden interests and intentions of social groups.
