영문 초록

  This study intends to explore the efficacy and usefulness of American democracy by analyzing the Londonderry Town Meeting case. The discussion focuses on the institutionalization processes and the operational structure of the Town Meeting, and people"s satisfaction. The author provides a possibility that the participatory democracy of Town Meeting would be a alternative to the traditional democracy model under the new governance environment. Major findings of this study are following;
  First, the Town Meeting has been operationalized on the basis of people"s comprehensive participation. The town manager is controlled and monitored by town people. Second, despite the low rate of meeting participation the Town Meeting system has been continued supported by town members. The Town Meeting system is likely to be adapted to the increase of population and economic development. Third, it is noticeable that town peoples are very satisfied with public services provided by the Town Meeting. They seems to have high level trust of the Town Meeting system.
