국문 초록

  정치권력을 장악하려는 정치세력은 그 단체명에 지향하고자 하는 국호를 붙인다. 이 과정에서 미군정기 남조선 내 정치세력은 좌우라는 이념에 따라 국호를 사용하는 데 일정한 경향성이 있음이 파악된다.
  이에 따라 점령정책을 원활히 추진하려는 미군정청은 ‘조선’을 사용하였고 중간파 인사가 다수를 차지한 남조선과도입법의원에서는 ‘조선’이 채택되었다. 제2차 미소공동위원회 답신서에서 우익은 ‘한,’ 좌익은 ‘조선,’ 중간파는 ‘고려’를 국호로서 사용하였으나 남조선 단독정부를 수립하려는 우익만 참가한 제헌국회에서 정치권력의 논리에 따라 ‘한’이 채택되었다.
  그러나 평화통일에 앞서 남북간 국호통일이라는 역사적 과제가 해결되어야 할 것이다. 이는 정치권력의 논리가 아니라 분단으로 초래된 역사적 인과관계에 입각한 합리적 토론과정을 거쳐 해결되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

  Political force to seize the political power gives to the group the name of a country to aim at. In the process is the tendency that the political powers in South gave the name of country according to left and right ideology.
  Accordingly USAMGIK which intended to execute smoothly an occupation policy used Chosun(朝鮮). In the South Korean Interim Legislative Assembly where centrists held a large majority was selected Chosun(朝鮮). In the answer letter sent to the second USA-USSR Joint Committee, as the name of country rights used Han(韓), lefts did Chosun(朝鮮) and Centrists did Koryo(高麗). In the Constitutional Assembly which only rights joined in to intend the establishment of separate government in South Korea was selected Han(韓) according to logic of political power.
  But we must solve the historical problem of the unification between South and North Korea before peaceful unification. We must solve this problem not through logic of political power, but by means of rational discussion-process on the base of historical causal ralationship resulting from division.
