『우리말우리글』을 통해 본 새 교과서의 방향 - 『우리말우리글』을 학교에서 써본 경험을 되돌아보고 새 교과서가 이루어야 할 것을 짚어봄

국문 초록

  전국국어교사모임이 2001년 펴낸 『우리말우리글』에서 잘 이룬 것을 교재 밖에서 보면, 첫째, 국어 교과서 제도에 변화를 가져온 일, 둘째, 국어교육의 길을 바로잡은 일, 셋째, 국어교사의 문화를 흔들어 깨운 일, 넷째, 교사들의 주체성을 늘린 일이다. 교재 안에서 보면, 『우리말우리글』은 활동 중심의 통합적 구성, 주제 중심의 통합적 구성, 학생중심의 교재, 교수학습 구조화 측면, 디자인 개념을 구현함, 다양한 매체를 효율적으로 사용함, 어휘학습이 크게 보강됨 따위를 잘 이룬 것으로 들 수 있다.
  『우리말우리글』에서 못 이룬 것을 보면, 첫째, 학교 현장에서 많이 활용하지 못함, 둘째, 교육과정에 기대지 못했음, 셋째, 언어학습목표를 정교하게 구현하지 못한 부분이 있음, 넷째, 평가가 어려웠음, 다섯째, 너무 가벼운 읽을 거리만 추구했다는 문제 제기가 있었음, 여섯째, 단원 설정의 취지가 분명치 않고, 그에 맞는 참고 자료 등이 부족했음 따위이다.
  앞으로 새 교과서에서 할 일을 말하면, 첫째, 검인정 교과서가 되기 위해 국가교육과정을 충실히 반영해야한다. 둘째, 교육과정을 충실히 담아내는 교수-학습 과정안을 마련하여야 한다, 셋째, 『국어』와 『생활국어』를 통합할 수 있는 방안을 찾아야 한다. 넷째, 단원 목표, 단원 전개와 수업 과정 등에 대해 좀 더 상세한 안내를 해야 한다, 다섯째, 고전자료를 잘 활용해야 한다, 여섯째, ‘열린’ 교과서를 분명하게 담아야 한다, 일곱째, 학습목표에 도달하는 데에 가장 적절한 제재로 구성해야 한다 이다.

영문 초록

  Looking at the facts that well achieved by 『Urimal, Urigul』published by the National Association for Korean Language Teachers in 2001, as for the external view of textbook, first, it has brought a dramatic change to Korean textbook system, second, it has reformed a way of education for Korean language, third, it has awakened the culture of Korean teachers and lastly, it has enlarged teachers’ subjecthood. As for the internal view of textbook, 『Urimal, Urigul』has strengths with an integrated construction of activity centered and topic centered framework, a student focused textbook, the structuralization of teaching instruction, an embodiment of a design concept, an effective usage of a diversity of media materials as well as reinforcement for vocabulary learning.
  Come to think of what 『Urimal, Urigul』could not achieve, first, it could not be made the most use in schools, second, it could not depend on curriculums, third, it could not exquisitely embody language learning objectives, fourth, it was difficult to evaluate, fifth, the textbook pursued light reading materials excessively and finally, the object of units was not clear and there was lack of appropriate references for it.
  In order to publish the new flawless textbook through the problems found from 『Urimal, Urigul』, first, it should reflect national curriculums sufficiently to become an authorized textbook. Secondly, the new textbook has to embody a plan for a teaching-learning course that fully reflects its curriculums, third, it should pursue to make more effective use of classical literatures, fourth, it has to be provided a detailed guidance for the unit’s objective, unit’s development as well as a course of the class and finally, fifth, it has to clearly contain an ‘open’ textbook.
