영문 초록

  In this paper I showed that long scrambling in Korean is an A"-movement and licenses P-gaps. I then investigate the character of P-gaps: P-gaps created by scrambling have a property of A" -trace, yielding the island effect and the sea effect and at the same time they have a property of pronouns in exhibiting the reconstruction effect in anaphora binding and scope relations. I account for these phenomena, assuming that P-gaps are A"-traces derivationally but are converted to pronouns at LF by an operation of vehicle change.
