초등학교 교사의 나눔교육 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구

국문 초록

  본 연구는 초등학교 교사의 나눔교육 경험을 심층적으로 이해하고자, 질적연구방법을 활용하여 나눔교육과 관련된 교육현실을 총체적으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 유의적 표집방법을 통해 나눔교육 경험이 있는 초등학교 교사 5명에 대한 개별인터뷰를 실시하였다. 자료분석 결과, 초등학교 교사의 나눔교육 경험과 관련된 총 304개의 개념이 나타났고, 이를 69개의 하위범주, 29개의 상위범주로 유목화할 수 있었다. 도출된 상위범주를 중심으로 그 내용을 살펴본 결과 크게, 나눔교육 동기(motivation), 나눔교육 과정(process), 나눔교육 결과(result)로 구분할 수 있었다. 나눔교육 동기에 대해서 연구참여자들은 ‘개인적 관심이 이끎’, ‘기회를 접함’, ‘새로운 교육도구가 필요함’, ‘도덕수업은 한계가 있음’, ‘나누며 사는 것이 중요함’ 등으로 나눔교육을 시작하는 것으로 나타났다. 나눔교육의 과정에서 교사들은 ‘학급특성을 활용함’, ‘가족 및 외부자원을 적극 활용함’, ‘다양한 프로그램을 활용함’, ‘나(교사)를 활용함’, ‘자율성을 강조함’, ‘마음이 움직이도록 함’, ‘서로 신뢰하게 함’, ‘익숙하게 함’, ‘지금 변화에 연연하지 않음’, ‘정보/길라잡이가 부족함’, ‘주위환경이 비협조적임’, ‘지속적인 교육기회가 부족함’ 등을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 아동들은 ‘틀에 벗어난 새로운 경험임’, ‘내가 할 수 있는 일임’, ‘나도 좋은 사람이 되고픔’ 등의 경험을 하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이를 본 연구에서는 방법적 인지적 환경적 측면으로 나누어 설명하였다. 나눔교육의 결과로서, 아동들은 ‘생활습관이 바람직해짐’, ‘나눔에 익숙해짐’, ‘주변인에 대한 관심이 커짐’, ‘나도 할 수 있음’, ‘나눔의 대상을 소중히 하게 됨’ 등을 경험하며, 교사들은 ‘교사역량이 좋아짐’, ‘학생들을 새롭게 인지함’, ‘나눔, 가르침, 인생에 대해 숙고함’, ‘나눔이 생활이 됨’ 등을 경험하는 것으로 분석되었다.
  본 연구는 소수 교사들의 경험을 탐색적으로 연구하고 있으나, 국내 최초로 나눔교육경험이 있는 교사들을 질적연구방법을 활용하여 심층적으로 탐색한다는 점에서 나눔교육 및 나눔문화 확산을 위한 중요한 기초자료가 될 것으로 본다.

영문 초록

  This study attempts to review elementary school teachers’ experience in teaching philanthropy education for children, which aims to nurture the culture of giving and cultivate new generations of philanthropists. To conduct this study, the researchers interviewed 5 elementary school teachers who have been integrating philanthropy education into their teaching curriculum systematically and continuously. As a result, 304 concepts, 69 sub-categories and 29 categories were identified through qualitative data analysis.
  For the motivation of engaging in philanthropy education, interviewees responded they started the education because of personal interest, by chance, need of educational instruments, limitation of existing curriculum and importance of sharing minds. During the education, interviewees made full use of given class environment, families and external resources, various programs, and interviewee themselves as educational instruments. They also emphasized the importance by reflecting upon themselves as teachers and initiated learner-oriented programs using a diverse range of approaches. Obstacles frequently noted were lack of information, uncooperative environment, and hindrances in continuing philanthropic education. However, the interviewees reported improvement in their teaching ability, the integration of the culture of giving into their daily lives, and continuous opportunities for self-reflection.
  According to the qualitative analysis, it was evident that children who received philanthropy education displayed positive changes in their attitudes: they became more spontaneous in both giving and helping, more concerned for others, and more emotionally positive and relaxed. Changes were experienced not only by children but also by the teachers themselves. The interviewees reported that giving became deeply ingrained in their teaching, in their relationship with students, and in their own lives. These results may indicate that a philanthropy education programs can be initiated as an effective educational instrument, at school and in the community, for raising sound citizens.
