학생의 삶을 존중하는 교사의 교육철학 : 일 제안

국문 초록

  교육을 보는 시각에 두 가지가 있는데, 그 하나는 형성주의(formalist)이고 또 다른 하나는 자연주의(naturalist)이다. 형성주의에서는 교사의 입장에서 교사가 특정한(specific) 교육목표와 특정한 교육방법과 프로그램으로 학생을 특정한 인물로 만들어 갈 수 있다는 입장에서 교사활동을 하는 것을 강조하고 있는 반면에, 자연주의에서는 학생의 입장에서 학생에게 숨어 있는 자질과 잠재력에 착안하여 이를 정상적으로 계발해야 한다는 입장이다. 두 가지 입장이 교육활동에 조화를 이루어져야 하겠으나, 권위주의적인 통제방식이 지배했던 우리 사회는 전통적으로 형성주의적인 교육이 중심을 이루었다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 탈권위주의를 표방하고 민주화와 지방분권을 추진하고 있는 상황에서 수평적인 구조로 급변해 가고 있는 현 상황에서는 형성주의보다는 자연주의적인 교육을 전개해 나갈 교사가 요청된다. 그리고 이는 인간의 본질적인 삶의 특성을 존중하는 교육이란 측면에서도 강조되어야 한다.
  이러한 시대적 요청을 반영하고 인간의 삶의 기본적인 특성을 중요하게 여기는 교육을 실행한다면, 교사에게 요청되는 특성으로는 학생의 삶을 존중하는 교육, 즉 어른의 취향과 기준에 맞추는 교육이 아니라 학생의 입장에 맞추는 교육을 진행할 수 있어야 할 것이다. 학생이 학교의 삶을 즐겁게 느끼면서 공부할 수 있는 교육이 필요하다. 교육의 종국의 목표는 학생이 행복한 삶을 해갈 수 있도록 돕는 일이다. 이를 위해 헌신할 수 있는 교사가 요청되며 국가적 교육정책도 이러한 입장에서 수립되어 학교 현장이 교사와 학생이 주체가 되어 교육을 이끌어 나갈 수 있기 위한 학교 조건, 즉, 학교의 교육자활력이 갖추어져야 한다.

영문 초록

  There are two perspectives in education: formalist and naturalist. From a formalist perspective, teachers shape their students into a specific people with specific objectives, methods and programs that are based on teacher"s standards. On the other hand, from a naturalist perspective, teachers focus on developing students" quality and potential on the basis of students" needs.
  Theoretically the two perspectives should be harmonized, but since our society(Korea) has been ruled by authoritarianism, we have stressed the formalist perspective in the field of education. However, in the context of the recent transformation in Korea, which tends to become a more horizontal society, particularly from authoritarianism to democratization and localization, we need more naturalist teachers. Moreover, a naturalist perspective should be accentuated because of its essence of appreciating the true nature of human being.
  Teachers ought to respect students" lives to meet the request of the era and to educate people based on their true nature. In other words, teachers need to educate students based on their needs, not on grown-up"s needs and standards. It is important to have students learn in a good school condition. The ultimate goal of education should help students have a happy life. Therefore, teachers who devote to students" needs are required, and national education policies should be made based on the naturalist perspective in order to make a school environment where teachers and students are subjective. In other words, schools need to develop a capability of educational self-support.
