초임 특수교사의 교직생활 적응과정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

  본 연구의 목적은 초임 특수교사들이 처음 경험하는 교직생활을 어떻게 적응을 해 나가는지 그 적응과정을 질적으로 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 초임 특수교사 20명을 대상으로 2004년 3월부터 10월까지 면담, 참여관찰, 내러티브 탐구, 포커스 집단 면접법 등울 실시하여 이들의 교직생활 적응과정에 관한 정보를 수집하였다. 수집된 정보는 삼각측정법을 통한 타당화 작업을 통해 영역분석과 분류분석을 실시하여 교직생활의 적응과정을 대표 종합할 수 있는 주제를 선정하고, 이 주제들의 관계를 바탕으로 다음과 같이 세가지 유형으로 분류하였다. 즉, 초임 특수교사들은 ‘성실을 바탕으로한 현실 순응형’, ‘개척정신을 가진 탐험형’, ‘카오스상태의 혼란형’과 같이 크게 세가지 유형으로 교직생활에 적응해 가고 있었다. 따라서 본연구는 세 유형별 초임 특수교사들의 실제 교직생활의 모습들을 제시하면서 교사양성기관의 역할, 학교문화와 풍토의 중요성, 초임특수교사의 지원체제에 대한 논의를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

  Thist study purposed to examine changes in the process of teachers’ adaptation to their occupational environment, starting from the author’s questions of “What experiences do beginning special education teachers have in the early stage of their career?” and “How does beginning special education teachers’ teaching experiences change over time?” To answer these questions, this study is conducted a qualitative research on 20 beginning special education teachers for around eight months from March to October 2004. Data about the process of beginning special education teachers’ adaptation to their teaching job were collected through narrative inquiry, individual / group interviews, key group interviews and participative observation. The results of this research are as follows.   The adaptive ways of beginning teachers of the handicapped in this study were categorized into three types. First, "explorer"s type with the pioneer spirit" is the type of teachers who adapt themselves to the teaching practice by running into the given roles or problematic situation in person and acquiring strategies necessary for practicing their role as a teacher. This type of teachers gained know-how while taking a training or asking for co-teachers" help for themselves rather than feeling guilty or skeptical about their unsatisfactory teaching experience. Second, "adaptive type based on sincerity" is the type of teachers who try to adapt themselves to their situation while feeling uncomfortable about confusion and embarrassment caused by unfamiliarity or who accommodate themselves to the teaching practice dealing with their work silently while thinking that is their job as a beginning teacher. Third, "confused type in chaos" is the type of teachers who adapt themselves to the teaching practice with full of disorder and confusion. The beginning teachers of the handicapped in this category were constantly struggling because of the disagreement between their ideal and circumstances. They didn"t actively pursue their job on their own way in the course of adaptation to the teaching practice nor faithfully follow the school system.   Such results showed that beginning teachers of the handicapped were feeling burden about lesson preparation that they first experienced after entering the teaching profession, other routine work and heavy workload along with class management, and guidance of severe and multiple handicapped students" lives. Especially, beginning teachers in charge of special class experienced more confusion about their identity as a teacher due to lack of class management plans for the special class or proper curriculum as well as stress caused by conflict with other teachers of ordinary classes.
