교사의 삶에 대한 생애사적 연구: 연구동향과 예들

국문 초록

이 연구는 1980년대 이래로 교육과정 분야의 주요 탐구분야로 대두한 교사의 삶에 대한 생애사적 연구동향을 종합적으로 장려한 글이다. 이에 첫 번째 연구문제로서 교육과정 연구분야에서 생애사 연구방법이 왜 대두하였고 강조되었는지를 이 분야의 이론적 배경을 제기한 학자들인 William Pinar, Madeline Grumet, Janet Miller, Ivor Goodson 등의 주장을 살펴보고 교사연구에서 생애사 연구의 필요성과 가치를 강조한 다양한 학자들의 연구를 소개하였다. 두 번째 연구문제로서 교사의 삶에 대한 포괄적인 연구동향을 연구자의 준거에 따라서 네 개로 구분하였고 각 연구주제의 개념과 연구결과들을 세부적으로 정리하였다. 이에 초임교사의 사회화, 교직과 교사의 삶, 교사의 실제적 지식, 비판적 교사의 삶이라는 네 개의 영역별로 교사의 삶에 대한 연구가 어떻게 진행되있는지를 대표적인 작품들의 분석을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 이러한 연구동향에 대한 소개와 정리가 교육개혁의 선상에 놓여 있는 우리나라의 교육학연구와 교육과정 연구와 실제에 주는 시사점이 무엇인지를 논의하였다. 우리나라의 학교개혁이 보다 잘 진행되기 위해서는 현장에서 살아가고 있는 교사들의 일상적인 삶의 특징과 구조, 학교문화에 대한 연구가 있어야 하며 그리고 그들의 전문적 지식에 대한 심층적인 교육학적 탐구가 있을 때만이 교육적 이상과 현실의 조화를 통한 현장개선이 일어날 수 있다는 아이디어를 도출하였다.

영문 초록

This study is to introduce general research trends in life history approaches to teachers' lives which has appeared as one of the main research topics in curriculum studies during last two decades. For this purpose, fIrst, the meaning and significance of life history in studying curricular pheonmena and teachers' lives were explained with citations of leading scholars' theorization in this field. Second, research trend of life history approaches on teachers' lives were classified into four major categories: ①socialization of first year teachers; ②culture of teaching and teachers' lives ③teachers' personal practical knowledge ④critical teachers' lives. Definition and main research works of each category were explicated. On the basis of the aforementioned introduction, the implications of this topic for Korean curriculum studies were discussed in four ways. First, teachers' everyday lives must be closely researched and described. Second, teachers' practical knowledge must be priortized as main resource of theorizing knowledge for curriculum and teaching in a Korean context. Third, diversification of research methods in curriculum studies will be necessary in a postpositivist ear where legitimacy of traditional methods in curriculum studies has been continuously questioned. Knowing about the life history approach will contribute to Korean scholars' deeper understanding on new research methodologies which are employed in contemporary curriculum inquiries. Fourth, works on teachers' lives will be used as educative materials to help classroom teachers to critically review their own everyday practices and find better ideas for improvment of classroom practices.
