국문 초록

이 연구는 국내외 대안학교의 운영 특성을 비교한다. 대안교육이라는 용어가 우리사회에 등장하게 된 것이 10년 가까이 지나고 있고 아직도 대안교육의 정체성에 대한 논란은 계속되고 있다. 그것은 서구의 경우와 달리 우리나라는 대안교육 자체가 공교육 개혁의 대안으로서 출범한 것이 아니라 사회운동의 일환으로 제기되었기 때문에 철학적 바탕이 취약할 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 그러나 기존의 공교육에서도 대안학교의 성공적인 학교경영 모델에 관심을 갖기 시작했고, 정부도 특성화고등학교의 형태로 제도권으로 수용하면서 새로운 도약의 전기를 마련하고 있기도 하다. 향후 대안교육의 지속적인 성장을 위해서는 그간의 대안교육 추진 성과를 냉정히 평가해 보고 대안적 비전을 제시하는 것이 필요하다. 그러한 작업은 우선 성공적으로 대안교육을 정착시키고 있는 선진 각국의 사례에 관심을 가지는 것에서 출발하는 것이다. 대안교육이 국내외를 막논하고 공교육의 위기에 대한 대안으로 제기되었다는 공통점이 있기는 하지만 대안교육의 대두배경이나 철학적 바탕, 학교경영 방식은 다를 수가 있다. 국내외 대안교육의 특성을 비교하는 작업은 한국적 대안교육의 정체성 확립을 위해서도 중요한 일이다. 공교육에 대한 대안으로 대안교육이란 용어를 사용하면서 인본주의적 철학을 바탕으로 다양한 실험학교를 운영해 온 서구 사례에 대한 탐색은 우리나라 대안교육의 토양을 더욱 풍부하게 해 주기 때문이다. 이 연구는 이러한 점에 착안하여 영국, 독일, 미국의 대안교육 전개 양상과 운영 특성을 진단하고 한국 대안학교 경영에 유용한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to find out the distinction of running in Korean and foreign alternative education. 1. Comparing and inquiring foreign alternative education 1) The alternative schools of England emphasize the ecological ethical-view that all lives and the nature are symbiotic. 2) The alternative schools of Germany search many suggestions in alternative education and reflect them into public education. 3) The alternative schools of America have been developed through extensive social movements such as black democratic movements and the appearance of education of humanism. And they amend some existing systems without breaking main organization. 2. The characteristics of the Korean alternative schools 1) The characteristics of educational idea are to respect personal freedom and self control and emphasize cooperation and value of ecological life. 2) The characteristics of educational contents are to pursue unified educational process without dividing work and play. They pursuit integrated curriculum in which work and play are not distinguished and intend to educate real life. Emotion and sociality is more important than knowledge. The philosophy of life is invaded into every educational activities. 3) Educarional enviroument: They intend school emphasizing human. They believe that only small size school enables smooth interactions between teacher and pupil. Nowadays the alternative education system starts to attract more people as a standard education system, It is worried that before fulfilling the essence of alternative education movement the alternative education system ended as just a movement in an education society. The distinction of Korean and foreign alternative school has a significance because it show the possibility that educational organization can outgrow today's form of school in terms of educational administration.
