국문 초록

본 논문은 1991-2002년 한국 컴퓨터 및 관련 산업과 자동차 및 관련 산업과 미국의 두 산업에 대해서 효율성은 자료포락분석으로, 그리고 유연성은 Phillips- Tuladhar 모형으로 추정하여 국가, 산업, 기업규모, 효율성의 지속기간별 유연성과 효율성간 상관관계를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 우선, 한국이 두 산업 모두에서 미국보다, 그리고 자동차 및 관련 산업이 양국에서 컴퓨터 및 관련 산업보다 효율적이다. 그러나 미국산업이 한국산업보다, 그리고 컴퓨터 및 관련 산업이 자동차 및 관련 산업보다 유연적이다. 둘째, 기술효율성과 유연성간 正 상관관계의 수준은 두 산업에서 한국보다 미국이, 그리고 두 국가에서 자동차 및 관련 산업보다 컴퓨터 및 관련 산업에서 높다. 셋째, 대기업군의 경우 미국 컴퓨터 및 관련 산업을 제외하면 유연성과 기술효율성간 상관관계는 負 인 반면, 중소기업군에시는 正이며 이러한 상관관계는 규모의 효율성과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 미국 컴퓨터 및 관련에서는 유연화가 장기 효율성의 증대를 위한 유효한 전략인 반면, 한국에서는 그렇지 않고, 자동차 및 관련 산업에서는 그 반대였다. 영문 초록

The paper is to measure the efficiency and flexibility of computer & related industries, and automobile & related industries for 1991-2002 in Korea and the U.S., the former is calculated by Data Envelopment Analysis and the latter by Phillips- Tuladhar model. It is also to analyze a relationship between flexibility and efficiency by country, industry, scale of company, and period of steady efficiency. First of all, while the Korean industries and automobile & related industries are more efficient than the American ones and computer & related industries, the former is less flexible than the latter. Second, the positive correlation between efficiency and flexibility is stronger in the U.S. and computer & related industries than in Korea and automobile & related industries. Third, the correlation of large companies group is negative except the American computer & related industries but that of small-medium enterprises group is positive, which is associated with scale efficiency. Finally, the flexible automation is significant for the long-tenn efficiency in the American computer & related industries, but not in the Korean ones and vice versa in the automobile & related industries.
