국문 초록

이 글에서는 시각적 의사소통이 문화적 능력의 향상을 목적으로 하는 시각문화교육 에서 중요한 요소로서 검토되었다. 이를 위하여 개인적 행위의 표현과 그 사회적 확장으로서의 의사소통의 차이에 대한 검토와 시각적 의사소통과 문자적 의사소통과의 비 교를 통하여 시각적 의사소통의 특성을 규명하였다. 특별히 의사소통의 개념을 기호 학적 관점을 수용하여 고찰하였다. 그 결과에 근거하여 시각문화의 교육적 관점에서 의사소통이라 의미의 단순전달이 아니라 의미의 생산과 교환이라는 구성적 특성이 강 조되어야 함을 주장하였다. 이러한 시각적 의사소통은 시각적으로 읽고 쓰는 시각적 문해력(visual literacy)를 포함하는 적극적인 개념으로, 시각문화의 산물을 매개로 이해, 소통할 수 있는 구체적 의미의 실천과정에 가장 필요한 능력이라 하겠다. 따라 서 현행 미술교육이나 시각문화교육은 시각적 의사소통을 중심으로 학습자의 문화적 능력을 향상시키는 데 초점을 맞추어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Art is communicative and can help understand aspects of the world that they could not gain access to through other means. The role and function of various visual images have become very significant in our modern culture. So The demand of visual-culture education(VCE) has been increased. VCE is based on artifacts which consists of learners' meaning in their daily lives. It targets visual cultural communications by positively participating in culture and reproducing meaning. VCE pursues integrated knowledge through visual culture as social or relational means. It is a wholistic education. Beyond artistic activity, VCE broadens visual communication and then understands visual images and then mutually communicates. Visual culture needs to express by visual image, to understand visual image, and to communicate with visual image. Communication is ‘producting and changing of meaning’ rather than ‘only conveying information’ on the view of semiotics. It is good to raise citizens who have a cultural capacity, so that they can actively participate in the process of persistent efforts to create the structure and meaning of current reality. VCE targets to understand visual culture as a practical process that creates meaning under a particular culture and circumstances. And it also targets to develop visual communication ability to participate in that process.
