국문 초록

성인교육에 대한 철학적 접근을 하는 연구는 국내외를 막론하고 흔치가 않다.그래서 미국의 일부 학자들은 성인교육의 철학적 기초에 대한 강화를 주장하기도 한다.철학적 바탕이 없는 교육은 위험하기 때문일 것이다.이러한 문제의식 하에서 성인교육에 관심을 가졌던 위대한 교육사상가들의 성인교육관을 고찰하고,그를 통해 우리의 성인교육에 도움을 줄 수 있는시사점을 얻는 것은 의미가 있다고 본다. 본 논문에서는 17세기 위대한 교육사상가인 코메니우스의 범지학적 교육철학을 살펴본 후, 그의 성인교육사상을 교육목적,교육내용,교육방법의 측면에서 분석한다.모든 사람에게,모든 것을,모든 방법으로 가르쳐야 한다는 그의 범교육학 체계 속에는 자연스럽게 성인교육과 평생교육에 대한 그의 교육적 신념이 녹아 있다.또한 어느 한편에 치우치지 않은 그의 통합 교육적 시각은 오늘날 만연되고 있는 편향된 교육체제에 경종을 울릴 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to gain some suggestions for the improvement adult education in Korea from the analysis on Comenius'thought of adult education. The insistence on the entirety of human individual and social development and education was considered by Comenius both horizontally and vertically,and he offered a complex pansophic method for this purpose.Whi l e Descartes was occupied particularly with the question of space,Comenius gave much thought to both space and time.He was interested in formulating relevant principles to educate all men in all nations and countries of the world(omness).He wanted to educate them in everything important for the life of all men(omnia),and to be trained to fulfil all their potentialities physical and intellectual but also as regards emotion,will,conscience and behaviour,action,always without any violence,naturally(omnino). A central concern of the adult school was its integration of education with working life.This was the fundamental purpose of the adult school. Comenius envisaged three types of curriculum content for the adult school.It would consist,firstly,of what he called‘the book of the mind,’a term signifying the classical disciplines of philosophy,literature,language,history,science etc.;secondly,it would consist of what he called the ‘book of the world,’ signifying practical,life-related studies such as economics and nature study,or vocational studies such as arts and crafts and home economics;and thirdly,it would include the study of scripture and theology which he saw as the natural integrating focus for all educational pursuits. Comenius insisted that the pursuit of universal learning should be conducted in a manner consistent with the ways of nature,i.e.with the spontaneous,inductive modes of knowing inherent in human consciousness.In this context,he stressed the methods of learner-centered pedagogy,and particularly of the doctrine of learning through experience.And also mental and moral life becomes the core of adult education in Comenius'Pampaedia.
