비자살적 자해 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 비자살적 자해 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 경험에 관한 의미와 본질을 탐색하고자 실시하였다. 이를 위하여 비자살적 자해 행동을 하는 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니 8명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 실시하고 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구 방법을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 본질적 구조를 구성하는 7개의 구성요소와 20개의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었다. 7개의 구성요소는 ‘순응적인 자녀의 예측 못한 반항 행동에 위기감을 느낌’, ‘자해하는 자녀를 보고 정신적 충격과 혼란에 빠짐’, ‘좌절감과 절망감에 삶의 질이 저하됨’, ‘자녀로 인해서 과거로 돌아가 찬찬히 자신을 살펴봄’, ‘아픔 속에 비로소 자녀의 모습이 보이기 시작함’, ‘불안을 견디고 감정을 추슬러 자녀와 소통하기 위해 먼저 다가감’, ‘자녀의 적응적인 삶을 위해 다시 고된 엄마의 자리에 서 있음’이다. 이를 바탕으로 상위 주제를 도출하여 범주화하고 통합적으로 기술하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 비자살적 자해 청소년 자녀에게 큰 영향을 미치는 ‘어머니’요인에 초점을 맞추어 어머니의 경험을 탐색함으로써 청소년 비자살적 자해의 주요 요인인 어머니의 개입을 위한 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The study delves into the experiences of mothers with adolescents engaging in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors. Giorgi’s phenomenological research method was applied through in-depth interviews with eight mothers. The analysis identified seven components and 20 sub-components forming an intrinsic structure, including: “Feeling crisis due to unexpected rebellious behavior of the adaptable child”, “Experiencing mental shock and confusion upon witnessing the child’s self-injury”, “Encountering frustration and despair leading to a decline in quality of life”, “Reflecting on oneself deeply because of the child”, “Discerning the child’s presence amidst pain”, “Enduring anxiety to connect emotionally with the child”, and “Reassuming the role of a supportive mother for the child’s accommodative life”, These components formed overarching themes, emphasizing the profound impact of maternal involvement on adolescents with NSSI tendencies. The study underscores the significance of understanding mothers’ experiences in addressing adolescent NSSI, offering insights into their crucial role and implications for intervention strategies.
