동물매개활동 자원봉사 활동체계에서의 확장학습의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 동물매개활동에 참여하는 자원봉사자들의 동물매개 자원봉사 활동체계에서 경험하는 학습과정을 탐색하는데 있다. 치매노인, 지적장애인, 가출청소년 등 정서적 및 사회적 장애를 겪고 있는 사람들을 대상으로 그들의 증상완화 및 긍정적 변화를 위한 활동에 참여하는 동물매개활동 자원봉사자들은 치료도우미 동물과 함께 동물매개활동에 참여했다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 심층면담, 활동 기록지, 문헌고찰 등을 통하여 자료 수집을 하였고, 일어나는 현상에 관심을 가지고 감추어져 있는 의미를 찾아내고 해석하는 데에 유용한 질적 연구방법으로 실시하였다. 즉, 문화역사적 활동이론을 이론적 틀로 적용하여 활동체계에서의 활동양상과 그들의 학습과정을 집중 탐구하였다. 연구참여자는 동물매개활동에 대한 전반적인 이해와 특성을 파악하고 있고, 세 가지 이상의 다양한 참여 대상자를 경험한 자원봉사활동 경력이 5년 이상이며, 현재까지도 지속적으로 학습모임에 참여하는 자원봉사자 일곱 명을 대상으로 하였다. 동물매개 활동체계에서 각 요소들은 활동체계 내에서 상호작용을 하고 있었으며, 요소 자체 또는 요소 간에 발생되는 모순에 따라 그것들을 극복하는 과정에서 학습을 통한 확장적 전환이 일어났다. 동물매개활동에 참여하는 자원봉사자들의 동물매개활동 참여 동기는 처음에는 호기심에서 주변적 참여자로 활동하였다가 활동을 지속하면서 전문성을 향상시키고자 하는 학습욕구가 발생했고, 전문성을 갖춘 주체적 참여자로서 학습모임 활동을 확장시키는 역할로 이어졌다. 본 연구에서 문화역사적 활동이론의 활동체계 모형은 연구 참여자들의 내적 동기를 사회구조적 맥락과 함께 기술하였고, 생명존중사상과 더불어 사람과 동물이 함께 교감하는 것에 대한 연구를 더 깊이 이해하고 발전시켜야 하는 필요성을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the learning processes of volunteers served in animal-mediated activities in the context of their animal- mediated volunteer service programs. Volunteers participated in activities with therapeutic animals aimed at alleviating symptoms and promoting positive changes in people with emotional and social disabilities, such as older adults with dementia, intellectually disabled individuals, and runaway youths. The data used in the study was collected through in-depth interviews, activity logs and literature review, and a qualitative research approach was employed to explore and interpret the meanings hidden behind occurring phenomena. To focus on investigating activity patterns within the established activity programs and learning processes of the participants, a theoretical framework of cultural-historical activity theory was applied. The research participants consisted of seven volunteers who demonstrated an overall understanding of animal-assisted activities, possessed experience in volunteer activity of five years or more including involvement with three or more diverse target groups, and were engaged in ongoing training related to their volunteer activities. In the animal-assisted activity systems, interactions between various elements within the activity systems were observed, as well as transformative learning which occurred through the process of overcoming contradictions arising within the elements themselves and between elements. This approach suggests the need for deeper understanding and the advancement of research on the utilization of animals, in addition to an emphasis on the principles of respect for life.
