국문 초록

이 논문은 메를로-퐁티의 현상적 신체를 중심으로 의료인-환자 사이의 공감에 대한 재해석을 시도한다. 현상학적으로 공감에서 중요한 것은 자기와 타인이 주체로서 대등한 상호주관성이다. 그러나 기존 의료에서 환자는 의료인-환자 간 주객 분리 패러다임에 의해 객관적 대상의 지위에 머물렀다. 또한 기계론적 생리학의 영향으로 환자의 신체가 물질적 대상으로 취급받으면서, 공감은 의사의 일방적 해석이 되었다. 따라서 이 논문은 살아있는 신체로서 나의 고유한 주체적 몸인 현상적 신체를 통해 환자의 신체에 대한 인식을 제고하여 적절한 신체적 공감의 조건과 의미를 구체화하고자 한다. 먼저 기존 의료윤리와 의료현장에서의 공감 작용을 비판적으로 고찰하고(Ⅱ), 메를로-퐁티의 현상적 신체가 어떠한 의미에서 의료인-환자 간 상호주관적 공감을 자아낼 수 있는지 분석할 것이다(Ⅲ). 이후 메를로-퐁티에서 현상적 신체의 특성을 ‘상황의 공간성’과 ‘신체의 운동성’으로 나누어 적절한 공감의 조건을 구체화할 것이다(Ⅳ, Ⅴ).

영문 초록

This Paper attempts to reinterpret empathy between medical professionals and patients in medical ethics, focusing on Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenal body. Phenomenologically, what is crucial in empathy is the intersubjectivity between the self and others. However, in the conventional medical treatment, patient’s have been relegated to the position of an objective through the paradigm of separation between medical professional and the patient. Furthermore, under the influence of mechanistic physiology, as the patient’s body is treated as a material object, empathy has become a unilateral interpretation by the physician. Therefore, through the phenomenal body, which is a living body and my own subjective body, I will raise awareness of the patient’s body in order to flesh out the conditions and meaning of appropriate body empathy. This paper will, at first, critically examine existing medical ethics and empathy in medical practice(Ⅱ), and analyse in what sense Merleau-Ponty's phenomenal body can generate intersubjective empathy between medical professionals and patients(Ⅲ). After that, I will analyse Merleau-Ponty's characteristics of the phenomenal body as ‘spatiality of situation’ and ‘motricity’ to specify the conditions for appropriate empathy(Ⅳ, Ⅴ).
