국문 초록

고영훈의 50년 화업은 한국 극사실주의 미술의 탄생과 전개의 역사에 정확히 일치한다는 측면에서 매우 각별한 의미를 지닌다. 고영훈은 자신을 솔거와 윤두서의 후예로 여길 만큼 한국 리얼리즘 미술의 자생적, 주체적 역사 안에서 한국 전통의 미감을 현대적으로 탐색해 오고 있으며, 극사실적 묘사를 통한 ‘한국(성)’의 표현 가능성에 몰두해 왔다. 본 연구는 고영훈 회화에 ‘한국(성)’의 본질이 초기에서 후기로 나아감에 따라 사회적 주체성에서 문화적 정체성의 문제로, 네이션의 근대적 일체감에서 에스니의 원시적 공동체 의식으로 옮겨가고 있음을 확인하고, 이를 바탕으로 “한국 극사실 회화에서 한국(성)이라는 집단적 의식은 과연 무엇인가?”에 답하기 위해 사회학적⋅문화인류학적 측면에서 접근하고자 한다. 이는 고영훈의 회화뿐만 아니라 1970년대에 태동한 한국 극사실 회화가 민족의 유구한 문화적 연속성 안에서 개인의 체험된 삶을 미학화한 우리 현대미술의 소중한 자산임을 밝히려는 시도의 일환이기도 하다.

영문 초록

Ko Young-hoon’s 50-year painting industry has a very special meaning in that it exactly matches the history of the birth and development of Korean hyperrealist art. Ko Young-hoon has been modernly exploring the beauty of Korean tradition within the self-sustaining and subjective history of Korean realism art to the extent that he considers himself the descendants of Solgeo and Yoon Doo-Seo, and has been immersed in the possibility of expressing “Korea(Koreanity)” through hyperrealistic descriptions. This study confirms that the essence of “Korea(Koreanity)” in Ko Young-hoon’s paintings is shifting from social subjectivity to cultural identity and from Nation’s modern sense of unity to Esney’s primitive sense of community, and aims to approach it from a sociological and anthropological perspective. This is part of an attempt to reveal that not only Ko Young-hoon’s paintings but also Korean hyperreal paintings, which were born in the 1970s, are valuable assets of our contemporary art that aestheticallyize individuals’ experienced lives within the country’s long cultural continuity.
