국문 초록

본 연구는 지역 유산인 제주 돌문화경관을 활용하여 지역밀착형 초등지리 교육 방법에 대하여 탐색하고, 교육이 지역 유산의 보존·관리·활용에 있어 주요한 수단이 될 수 있다는 점을 파악하기 위해 수행되었으며, 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국가 교육과정과 제주 교육과정에서 공통적으로 지역의 중요성을 강조하고 있으며 학생이 생활하는 지역의 인문적·자연적 특성에 대하여 살펴보는 것은 교육의 기본이 된다. 둘째, 초등학교 지역밀착형 교육에 있어 가장 효과적인 교과는 사회과의 지리로 지역의 자연환경과 인문환경이 학생과 학생을 둘러싼 지역 공동체에 미치는 영향 및 상호작용을 파악하는 것으로부터 국가적, 세계적 수준으로 범위가 확장될 수 있다. 셋째, 경관에 대한 학습은 학생이 직접적으로 관찰할 수 있어 지각적인 경험을 중요시하는 초등학생의 발달 단계에 적합한 학습 방법이며, 사람들의 삶에 대한 이해로 전이될 수 있다. 그리고 경관을 학습하는 것은 지역에 대한 이해를 심화하여 지리적 사고력을 발달시킬 수 있다. 넷째, 지역성이 매우 강하게 나타나는 제주의 경관은 지역밀착형 초등지리 교육에 적합한 사례이며 화산섬 특유의 검은 다공질의 현무암을 사용하여 만들어진 수많은 제주 돌문화경관이 제주의 정체성을 형성하고 있다. 다섯째, 초등지리 교육을 통해 학생이 유산의 가치를 제대로 인식하고 이를 잘 보존하고 계승할 수 있도록 교육하는 것은 유산의 보존과 지속가능한 교육의 관점에서 의미가 있다. 여섯째, 지역 유산인 제주 돌문화경관을 활용한 초등지리 교육은 ‘경관 관찰하기’, ‘경관 해석 및 체험하기’, ‘경관 활용하기’로 구성하였으며, 학습을 진행하는데 있어 학생의 활동은 조사, 시청각교육, 현장학습, 실습, 토론, 역할놀이의 6가지 종류로 구분하였다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to explore community-based elementary geography education using Jeju's stone cultural landscape, a local heritage site, and examine how such education can be a major means of conserving, managing, and utilizing local heritage sites. The conclusions are as follows. First, the national and Jeju curricula commonly emphasize the importance of the region and examining the humanistic and natural characteristics of the region where students live is the basis of education. Second, the most effective subject in regional education in elementary schools is the geography of the social studies department, which can be extended to grasp the impact and interaction of the local natural and humanities environment on students and the local community surrounding them at national and global levels. Third, landscape learning is an appropriate method for the developmental stage of elementary school students who value perceptual experience because students can directly observe it, and it can be transferred to an understanding of people's lives. Landscape learning can deepen the understanding of a region and develop geographical thinking skills. Fourth, Jeju's landscape is a suitable example for community-based elementary geography education, and the numerous Jeju stone cultural landscapes created using black porous basalt unique to the volcanic islands form Jeju's identity. Fifth, educating students to properly recognize the value of heritage and to conserve and inherit it through elementary geography education is meaningful from the perspectives of heritage conservation and sustainable education. Sixth, elementary geography education utilizing Jeju's stone cultural landscape consists of “observing the landscape”, “interpreting and experiencing the landscape”, and “using the landscape.” Students' learning activities were divided into six types: survey, audiovisual education, field trip, practice, discussion, and role-play.
