도덕발달을 위한 연극적 접근

국문 초록

본 연구는 도덕적 인지와 도덕적 상상력에 대한 최근의 연구를 바탕으로 연극과의 연계적 특성을 고찰하고 도덕발달에 기여하는 연극적 요소에 대해 탐색한 것이다. 본 연구는 고도로 개별화되어 자기와 자기를 둘러싼 최소한의 영역에 집중된 사회적 관계의 질적 저하와 비대면적 매체를 매개로 피상적이고 인위적으로 만들어진 이미지를 통해 과잉 증폭된 사회적 관계의 왜곡된 팽창을 경계하며, 이 시대의 도덕발달이 나아가야할 방향에 대한 고민에서 시작되었다. 그리고 영상적 정보자료에 익숙한 현대인들에게 몸으로 체현되는 연극이 도덕적 경험의 비어있는 틈을 메워줄 수 있을 것이라는 기대를 바탕으로 한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 감정과 직관의 중요성을 주장하는 도덕적 인지와 도덕적 상상력에 대한 최근의 연구 결과물을 바탕으로 도덕발달이 지향해야하는 과제를 선행 연구를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 또한 연극적 특성과의 비교를 통해 연극이 도덕발달에 어떻게 기여할 수 있는지 그리고 연극치료적 목표와 관련하여 도덕발달의 관점이 왜 필요한지를 탐색하였다. 도덕발달을 위해 연극은 다음의 요소를 중심으로 기여할 수 있다. 첫째, 신체를 기반으로 한 연극은 도덕적 민감성을 향상시킨다. 둘째, 연극의 특별하게 조직된 서사적 맥락은 도덕적 판단이 명료화되는 것에 효과적이다. 셋째, 연극은 언어를 넘어선 상징화된 상호작용으로 타인과의 연대를 향상시켜 도덕적 동기화를 더욱 이끌어낼 수 있다. 넷째, 허구 속에서 진실을 탐구하는 연극의 특성은 도덕적 행동을 실험하고, 훈련하고, 촉구하는데 유용하다. 더불어 연극치료는 참여자의 도덕발달에 효과적으로 복무할 수 있으며, 기꺼이 참여자의 도덕발달을 포함하여 실행되어야한다. 도덕발달을 위해 연극은 다음의 요소를 중심으로 기여할 수 있다. 첫째, 신체를 기반으로 한 연극은 도덕적 민감성을 향상시킨다, 둘째, 연극의 특별하게 조직된 서사적 맥락은 도덕적 판단이 명료화되는 것에 효과적이다. 셋째, 연극은 언어를 넘어선 상징화된 상호작용으로 타인과의 연대를 향상시켜 도덕적 동기화를 더욱 이끌어낼 수 있다. 넷째 허구 속에서 진실을 탐구하는 연극의 특성은 도덕적 행동을 실험하고, 훈련하고, 촉구하는데 유용하다. 더불어 연극치료는 참여자의 도덕발달에 효과적으로 복무할 수 있으며, 기꺼이 참여자의 도덕발달을 포함하여 실행되어야한다.

영문 초록

Based on recent research on moral cognition and moral imagination, this study examines its relative connection with drama and explores the dramatic elements that contribute to moral development. This research began with concern about the direction in which moral development should take in this day and age, against the backdrop of the quality of social relationships deteriorating due to a high degree of self-centered individualization and the distorted expansion of social relationships, over-amplified through imagery made superficial and artificial through online mediums. It hopes that embodied drama can fill the gaps in moral experience for our contemporaries, as they are accustomed to visual information. Therefore, this study first reviewed prior literature that explores the goal of moral development, which bases itself on recent findings on moral cognition and imagination, while arguing for the importance of emotions and intuition. Furthermore, this study examines the different ways drama can contribute to moral development through a comparison of dramatic characteristics, and the reason why a moral developmental perspective is necessary in relation to the objective of drama therapy. Drama can contribute to moral development in the following three ways. First, drama based on the body enhances moral sensitivity. Second, the especially structured narrative context of drama is effective in clarifying moral judgments. Third, drama improves solidarity with others through symbolic interactions that go beyond language, promoting moral synchronization. Fourth, the characteristic of drama that seeks the truth within fiction is useful for experimenting, training, and encouraging moral behavior. Furthermore, drama therapy can effectively serve the moral development of its participants, and should willingly incorporate moral development in its execution.
