Toward the Holistic Experience of Music Performance: The Musician’s Progress

국문 초록

본 내러티브 연구는 전인적 음악 연주의 개발 여정을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 이에 대한 의미를 분석하고 재해석하였다. 연구자의 이론적 개념화를 중시하는 고전적인 질적 연구 방법과는 달리 본 연구에서는 참여자의 경험적 지식을 앎의 한 형태로 고려하여 내러티브 자료를 수집하였고 음악 연주의 개발 여정에 관한 전문 음악가의 경험적 실제와 이에 대한 연구자의 앎의 과정의 여정을 탐색하였다. 연구 결과, 음악 연주의 개발 여정은 곧 음악가 자신이 몸과 마음의 경작을 통하여 음악의 전인적 대언자로 변화하고 성장하는 여정이었으며, 그 여정 속에서 자신과 음악이 하나되는 전인적 역량의 회복과 음악 연주의 본연의 가치를 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 현 연구 동향에서 다소 희소한 음악 연주의 질적 자료로써 본 연구자의 선행 연구와 더불어 국내외 연주학의 발전에 기여한다.

영문 초록

Recent studies have shown that bodily engagement in performing musical arts helps ameliorate performance issues. This narrative research takes a further step into an individual’s embodied progress as essential knowledge in the holistic music performance experience. For the findings, the narrative of the musician’s progress was reconstructed in three states: Inhibited Self; Liminal Self; and Sacred Self, followed by the researcher’s crystallization of the narrative with themes of Music in self and Self in Music. The study unveils a musician’s lifelong embodied progress as a way of cultivating and restoring the musical self into the sheer agent of musical sounds. This study contributes to underrepresented narrative music performance studies, advocating the findings from my former studies that a musician’s self can serve the whole capacity toward the transcendental knowing in the soul-body/self-music connectivity restored, with a sense of wholeness offered.
