초ㆍ중등 다문화 교육 프로그램 효과에 대한 메타분석

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 메타분석 방법을 활용하여 초·중등 대상의 다문화 교육 프로그램 효과를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위한 구체적 연구 목표는 첫째, ‘초·중등 대상의 다문화 교육프로그램의 전체 효과크기를 분석한다.’ 둘째, ‘범주형 변인별 효과크기 차이를 분석한다.’ 셋째, ‘연속형 변인별 효과크기 차이를 분석한다.’이다. 이를 위해 ‘다문화’, ‘다문화 교육’, ‘다문화 프로그램’, ‘다문화 효과’를 키워드로 하여 논문을 검색하였고, 2차에 걸친 자료 수집 과정과 대상 논문에 대한 질적 분류 결과 학위논문 30편, 학술지 논문 6편, 총 36편의 논문이 최종 분석에 활용되었다. 메타분석을 실시한 결과, 다문화 교육 프로그램의 총 효과크기는 .816으로 큰 효과 크기를 나타냈으며, 이를 비중복 백분위 지수(U3)로 변환한 결과 다문화 교육 프로그램의 효과 크기는 79퍼센타일인 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해 다문화 교육을 시행한 실험집단의 점수가 통제집단의 점수보다 약 29% 높다는 것이다. 하위그룹분석을 실시한 결과, 비교과 영역보다 교과 영역의 효과가, 중등보다 초등교육의 효과가, 언어적 프로그램보다 비언어적 프로그램의 효과가, 개인·심리적 변인보다 다문화적 변인의 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 이 가운데 프로그램 내용(교과/비교과)을 제외한 나머지 요인의 평균차는 통계적으로 유의한 수준이 아니었다. 또한, meta-regression을 실시한 결과 집단크기와 교육 기간은 효과 크기에 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만 이는 통계적으로 유의한 수준이 아니었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of multicultural education programs for elementary and secondary school students using meta-analysis methods. Specific goals of this research are as follows. First, overall effect size of multicultural education programs for elementary and secondary school students is analyzed. Second, the effect size difference by categorical variables is analyzed. Third, the effect size difference of continuous variable is analyzed. To do this, we searched for articles using ‘multiculturalism’, ‘multicultural education’, ‘multicultural programs’, and ‘multicultural effects’ as keywords. As a result, 30 theses, 6 journals, and 36 papers were used for final analysis. As a result of the meta-analysis, the total effect size of the multicultural education program was as large as .816 and the U3 index was 79 percentile. In other words, the score of the experimental group in multicultural education is about 29% higher than the score of the control group. As a result of analyzing the effect of categorical variables, curricular area was more effective than non-curricular area; secondary education was more effective than elementary education; non-verbal programs were more effective than linguistic programs and multicultural variables were more effective than personal and psychological variables. Meta-regression was carried out to examine the difference in effect size between continuous variables. As a result, group size and duration of education showed negative effects on effect size, but this was not statistically significant.
