녹문 임성주의 心論 고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 녹문(임성주, 1711~1788)의 심론을 고찰한 것이다. 녹문의 심론은 주자성리학의 이기론적 사유구조 속에 있으며, 오히려 주자성리학에서 한 걸음 더 나아가 성을 실현시키는 주체로서의 심을 곧바로 성의 위치로 격상시킴으로써 性善의 실현자인 심의 기능과 위상을 강조한다. 심의 차원에서 성을 온전히 실현하기 위해서는 결국 심이 성과 일치하는 ‘본체의 심’으로 격상되어야, 즉 심이 성처럼 선할 때라야 가능하다. 이것이 바로 그가 ‘심성일치’를 주장하는 이유이다. 녹문 역시 율곡처럼 심의 작용성(기)을 인정하기도 하지만, 동시에 한몸을 주재할 수 있는 주재성에 더 주목한다. 이때 한 몸을 주재할 수 있는 것은 전적으로 리에 근거하니, 이 때문에 심의 본체는 장재처럼 ‘본체의 기’가 아닌 주자성리학의 ‘리’가 된다. 이렇게 볼 때, 녹문의 심론은 주재성을 가진 심의 본체, 즉 리를 강조한 학자로 평가해야 하지 않을까.

영문 초록

This paper examines the mind theory of Nokmun(Lim sung-joo, 1711-1788). Nokmun's mind theory is in the selfish thought structure of Neo-confucianism, and rather, it goes a step further from Neo-confucianism and immediately elevates the mind as the subject of realizing Sung to the position of Sung, emphasizes the function and status of deliberation, which is the realizer of Sung good. In order to fully realize Sung at the level of deliberation, it is possible only when the mind is as good as the Sung, which eventually has to be upgraded to the 'Bonche's mind' that matches the Sung. This is why he insists on 'mind and Sung id match'. Like Yulgok, Nokmun also recognizes the actionability of the mind, but at the same time, more attention is paid to the presidency of one body. At this time, it is entirely based on Li that one body can be presided over, so for this reason, the mind Bonche becomes the 'Li' of Neo-confucianism, not the 'Bonche Gi' like Jangjae. In this way, shouldn't Nokmun's mind theory be evaluated as a scholar who emphasized the mind Bonche with presidency, that is, emphasized Li?
