보람노동 담론은 사회복지사의 일을 어떻게 규율하는가?

국문 초록

이 연구는 ‘보람있는 일’이라는 사회복지사들의 일의 호명에 담긴 이상화된 가치들이 어떻게 이들의 노동자로서 정체성을 구성하고 그들의 일과 개인적 삶을 규율하는지를 해명하기 위해 사회복지사의 일을 ‘보람노동’이란 시각에서 조망하였다. 버틀러의 수행성이론을 개념적 틀로 적용하여 사회복지의 장에서 주요이해당사자들에 의해 생산되는 담론들을 분석하고 지배적 담론들이 연구참여자들의 실천과 개인적 삶에서 수행됨을 보여주었다. 15명의 사회복지사들과의 심층면접을 통하여 자료를 수집하였다. 보람노동에 대한 사회적 담론들은 사회복지사의 노동자성의 인식과 권익 옹호에 소극적이게 하였고 일과 개인적 삶의 경계를 모호하게 하여 이들은 끊임없이 헌신과 소진 사이를 유동하는 것으로 나타났다. 돌봄노동에 대한 억압적 담론들에 대한 저항방식을 제언으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explain how the idealized values contained in the calling of social workers' work as 'Boram labor’ (that is translated as ‘rewarding labor') constitute their identity as workers and regulate their work and personal life, this study defines the social worker's work as 'rewarding labor'. Using Butler's performativity theory as a conceptual framework, this study explored how the discourses produced by major stakeholders in the field of social welfare constitute the identity of social workers as rewarding workers and how such discourses have the effect on their practice and personal life through discourse analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 social workers with different lengths of employment and positions. The dominant discourses on rewarding labor made it difficult for social workers to recognize their identity as a laborer and made them passive in advocating their labor rights. Also, by blurring the lines between their work and personal lives, social workers were found to be in constant flux between dedication and burnout. Based on the research results, praxis and policy recommendations were presented for empowering social workers to advocate their labor rights.
