『논어』에 나타난 공자의 인문예술교육의 현대적 의의

국문 초록

의사소통적 개방성이 위협받고 있는 현대사회에서 인문예술교육은 민주적인 시민교육의 주요 과제인 타인에 대한 이해와 공감의 능력을 기르는 데 기여할 수 있다. 본 논문은 동아시아의 문화적 전통에서 인문예술교육의 아이디어를 얻기 위해 유가사상의 근간이 된 『논어』에 나타난 공자의 시 교육론과 시적 언어를 활용한 대화적 교육의 이상에 대해 검토하였다. 검토 결과, 공자가 다양한 인문학적 가치들을 다루는 과정에서 보여준 시적 대화의 방식과 ‘시에 대해 더불어 말하는’미적 교육은 서로 다른 환경 속에 놓여 있고 다른 의견을 가진 사람들이 평등한 대화의 주체로 참여하고 성장하는 교육적 경험의 가능성을 보여주었다. 또한 공자가 『시경』에 수록된 시들의 특성으로 개괄한 ‘생각에 사특함이 없다’는 시적 언어가 자기 목소리로 발화하고 타인의 목소리에 경청하게 하는 교육적 힘을 가지고 있음을 정식화한 것이다. 본 논문을 통해 연구자는 공자가 제시한 시 교육론과 시적 언어를 통한 대화적 교육 과정이 공동의 문제를 해결하면서도 개별성을 중시하는 현대사회의 시민교육에 주요한 참조점이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

In modern society where the communicative openness is threatened, the humanities and arts education can contribute to developing the ability to understand and empathize with others, which is an important task of democratic civic education. The purpose of this study is to examine the theory of poetry education and the ideal of conversational education through poetic language in the Analects, in order to get ideas for the humanities and arts education in the cultural tradition of East Asia. As a result of the examination, the method of poetic dialogues of Confucius with his disciples and the aesthetic education of ‘talking about poetry together(與言詩)’demonstrate the possibility of educational experience in which people with different opinions can become the equal subjects of dialogue. And ‘there is no malicious intention in thinking(思無邪)’, which Confucius summarized as the characteristics of the poems in the Book of Poetry, means that the poetic language has the educational power to utter with one's own voice and to listen to the voices of others. This study shows that the theory of poetry education presented by Confucius and the interactive education process through poetic language can be an important reference point for civic education in modern society that emphasizes individuality while solving common problems.
