미술의 우열 판단에 관한 철학적 탐색

국문 초록

미술에서 우열을 논의하는 것은 현대에 이르러 점차 불가능한 것으로 인식되고있다. 이러한 경향은 학교 미술교육에 영향을 주어 학생의 미술에서 우열의 판단에관한 관심을 희석한다. 이에 미술학습에서 부진을 겪는 학생들은 미술교육의 논의에서 제외되는 현상이 나타난다. 본 연구는 예술 철학의 관점에서 미술의 개념을 고찰함으로써 미술의 우열 판단이 가능한 문제인지 탐구하였다. 예술 재현론, 예술 표현론, 형식주의, 열린 개념의 예술론, 예술 제도론의 관점에서 미술의 개념을 정의하고, 각 이론의 관점에서 미술의 우열 판단 가능성을 논하였다. 재현론, 표현론, 형식주의는 미술을 규정할 수 있는 공통된 본질을 추구하고자 하였으므로, 미술에서 각이론이 추구하는 본질을 미술 가치판단에 도입함으로써 미술의 우열 판단이 가능하다고 보았다. 열린 개념의 예술론에서는 가족유사성의 은유를 통해 우수한 미술의유사성을 확보할 수 있다는 관점을 제안한다. 제도론에서는 미술교육을 하나의 작은예술계로 규정함으로써 교사에게 평가의 권한을 부여하여 미술의 우열 판단이 실천적으로 가능할 수 있음을 제시한다. 이처럼 이론적으로 미술의 우열 판단이 가능하다면 미술학습부진 또한 존재한다고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Discussing superiority and inferiority in art is increasingly recognized as impossible in modern times. This trend affects art education in schools, diluting students' interest in the judgment of superiority and inferiority in art. As a result, students who experience art underachievement are excluded from the discussion of art education. This study investigated whether it is possible to judge the superiority and inferiority of art by examining the concept of art from the perspective of art philosophy. The concept of art was defined from the perspectives of representational theory of art, expressionist theory of art, and formalism, open concept of art theory, and institutional theory of art, and the possibility of judging the superiority of art from the perspective of each theory was discussed. Representational theory of art, expressionist theory of art, and formalism tried to pursue a common essence that can define art, so it was considered that it was possible to judge the superiority and inferiority of art by introducing the essence pursued by each theory in art into art value judgment. The open concept of art theory proposes the view that superior art similarity can be secured through the metaphor of family resemblance. In the institutional theory of art, by defining art education as a small ‘artworld’, teachers are given the authority to evaluate, suggesting that it is possible to judge the superiority and inferiority of art in practice. As such, if it is theoretically possible to judge the superiority of art, it can be said that there is also art underachievement.
