‘고래’ 상징 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 고래 상징에 대해 생태적, 이론적, 그리고 드라마의 고래이미지 등 다양한 관점에서 살펴봄으로서 고래 상징의 의미체계를 확충하여 인형치료에서 내담자 이해와 활용을 위한 기초자료 제공을 목적으로 하였다. 연구 결과 고래는 각 관점에서 다양한 상징체계를 갖고 있다. 고래 상징은 주로 긍정적인 의미가 많았다. 고래에 대한 신화 관점에서는 고래의 재생성, 거대성, 모성성 그리고 흉악한 존재의 부정적 의미가 있다. 고래에 대한 기독교신학의 관점에는 고래 뱃속에 들어간 선지자 요나의 이야기를 중심으로 고래 모티브는 회개와 순종, 하나님의 권능, 그리고 죽음과 부활 상징한다. 고래에 대한 심층심리학의 상징 관점으로 인형치료에서 고래 상징은 자유와 독립이고, 일반적으로는 생명, 해방 및 죽음과 부활을 상징한다. 특히 이 연구에서는 드라마 ‘이상한 변호사 우영우’의 고래 상징 체계를 미디어 텍스트 질적 연구 방법에 따라 살펴보았다. 그 결과 이 드라마에서 고래는 ‘작살에 죽더라도 아기고래를 떠나지 않는 엄마 고래의 모성성’, ‘멸종한 돌고래처럼 희귀하고 소증한 가치관’, ‘있는 그대로의 자신을 수용함과 낯선 환경 적응력’ 그리고 ‘깊은 무의식에서부터 솟아나는 창의적 문제해결력’을 상징하고 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for understanding and utilizing whale symbols in doll therapy by expanding the meaning system of whale symbols by examining whale symbols from various perspectives such as ecological, theoretical, and whale images in dramas. Research has shown that whales have various symbolic systems from each point of view. The whale symbol had a lot of positive meaning. From a mythological point of view of whales, there are negative meanings of whale regeneration, megacity, motherhood, and vicious existence. From the perspective of Christian theology about whales, the whale motif symbolizes repentance, obedience, God’s power, and death and resurrection, centering on the story of Jonah, a prophet who entered the whale’s belly. As a symbol of deep psychology for whales, in doll therapy, whale symbols are freedom and independence, and generally symbolize life, liberation, death and resurrection. In particular, in this study, the whale symbol system of the drama ‘Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo’ was examined according to the media text qualitative research method. As a result, in the drama, the whale symbolized “motherhood of a mother whale that never leaves a baby whale even if it dies in a harpoon,” “rare and timid values like an extinct dolphin,” “acceptance of oneself as it is and adaptability to an unfamiliar environment,” and “creative problem-solving ability that springs from deep unconsciousness.”
