국문 초록

본 연구는 이브 클라인의 <인체측정> 퍼포먼스(1960)를 제2차 세계대전 이후의 파괴와 상실을 직면하고 예술을 통해 생명 력을 회복하려는 희망을 구현한 총체 예술의 시도로서 재고하고자 한다. 물리적 현실의 속박에서 탈피하여 비물질성을 추구 했던 클라인의 <인체측정>은 미술의 재현적 전통을 거부하면서 동시에 당시 주도적이었던 모더니즘 미술의 형식과 매체적 한계에 도전했다. 이 작업의 현재적인 의미를 드러내기 위하여 본 연구는 <인체측정>에 참여했던 여성 모델을 남성 응시의 대상으로 제한시키는 기존의 제한적인 비평의 한계를 지적하고, 퍼포먼스에 참여하였던 여성 모델인 엘레나 팔룸보-모스카의 주체적인 입장에 주목한다. 궁극적으로 본 연구는 실천적인 차원에서 미적 경험의 가치와 중요성을 강조하는 리처드 슈스터 만의 신체미학 개념에 입각하여, 클라인의 <인체측정> 퍼포먼스가 교류적인 경험을 가능하게 한 열린 장을 제공함으로써 예술의 회복 가능성을 추구했음을 주장하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This paper reconsiders Yves Klein’s Anthropometry (1960) as an example of Gesamtkunstwerk, through which Klein intended to regenerate from the destruction and losses after the Second World War. While seeking immateriality unfettered by material reality, Anthropometry not only refused the tradition of representation in art, but also challenged then dominant Modernist theory supporting purity and medium specificity. In order to uncover the contemporary meaning of Anthropometry, this paper pays particular attention to the subjective stance of a female model named Elena Palumbo-Mosca. Her nude body has been the target of the feminist criticism that reduces her active body as a passive object of the desired male gaze. To redress the negative view that limits the female model’s role as a mere tool in Klein’s work, this paper draws on the concept of “somaesthetics” proposed by Richard Shusterman, who foregrounds the value of the aesthetic experience based on pragmatism. This paper consequently claims that Klein’s Anthropometry enabled the transactional experiences between the artist, participators, and spectators, thereby providing an open arena in which to regenerate through art.
