메타버스 기반 뮤지엄 전시의 재매개에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 메타버스 기반 전시에 대한 관람객 경험의 이해를 목적으로 한다. 이에 본고는 뮤지엄 전시 경험의 이해를 위한 이론적 틀(Falk & Dierking, 1992)과 매체 간 상호작용을 논한 재매개(볼터&그루신, 1999/2006)를 이론적 배경으로 구성했다. 이후 직접관찰과 문헌검토를 통해《힐링동산》,《구글 아트 앤 컬처》,《Musee Dezentral》에 대한 집합적 사례연구를 수행했다. 연구결과, 메타버스 기반 전시는 기존 뮤지엄 전시의 재매개를 통해 사용자의 몰입과 반영에 대한 욕구를 충족시켜, 그들의 관람 경험의 진정성을 구현하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 사례를 재매개의 이중 논리 안에서 포섭하여, 가상적 맥락이 메타버스 기반 전시 경험에 대한 몰입도를 제고하고, 기존 뮤지엄 전시와의 차별화된 특징을 마련하는 데 핵심 역할을 하고 있음을 확인했다. 나아가, 메타버스 기반 전시의 관람객 경험을 가상적 맥락과 사회적 맥락의 상호작용 측면에서 논하였다. 이에, 본 연구의 학술적 의의는 가상적 맥락의 제시와 재매개적 접근을 통하여 메타버스 기반 전시에 대한 관람객 경험을 개념적으로 이해한 것에 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to understand the audience’s experience about metaverse exhibitions. To do so, we provided the theoretical background by borrowing the concept of shedding light on museum experience (Falk & Dierking, 1992) and the theory on the interaction between media, called remediation (Bolter & Grusin 1999/2006). We, then, conducted a collective case study of “Healing Garden”, “Google Art and Culture”, and “Musee Dezentral” based on collecting data by direct observation and document review. As a result, the metaverse exhibitions contribute to offering the authenticity of experience about appreciating the exhibitions by satisfying users’ desire of immersion and reflectivity through the remediation of the offline museum exhibition. From the perspective of the dual logic of remediation, the virtual context plays a crucial role in enhancing immersion in the cases and providing differentiated features from offline museum exhibitions. Furthermore, this article discussed the construction of experience in the cases in terms of the interaction between the virtual context and the social context. By doing so, the theoretical contribution of this study lies in the conceptual understanding about the audience’s experience in the exhibition of new media through the suggestion of virtual context and the approach of remediation.
