뮤지엄에서의 NFT 활용 현황과 전망

국문 초록

블록체인 기반의 가상자산에서 출발한 NFT는 디지털 작품 판매를 비롯하여 뮤지엄과 관련된 다양한 영역에서 활용되고 있다. 전 세계의 뮤지엄들은 컬렉션, 아카이빙, 전시, 재원조성 등 여러 분야에서 외부 업체와 협력하여 NFT 기반 프로젝트를 시도해왔다. 이러한 시도는 NFT가 새로운 기술로서 미술시장과 미술사 전반에 근본적인 변화를 만들어낼 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다. 이 논문은 뮤지엄이 전통적인 관점에서 벗어나 NFT와 관련된 새로운 시도를 하는 사례들을 조사하고, 소장품의 NFT 전환을 통한 재원조성, NFT 작품의 컬렉션, NFT 온라인 뮤지엄 조성, 오프라인 공간에서의 NFT 디지털 작품 전시 등으로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 뮤지엄에서는 또한 NFT와 관련된 여러 담론을 논의해왔다. NFT 관련 이슈로는 진본성 및 저작권 등 법적 이슈, 뮤지엄 미션과의 충돌, 접근성의 한계와 전문인력의 부재, 탄소 배출과 환경 이슈 등이 있다. 이러한 사례와 이슈를 바탕으로 뮤지엄이 향후 NFT를 활용해갈 방향에 대해 전망하였다.

영문 초록

NFT, which started as a blockchain-based virtual asset, is being used in various fields related to museums. Museums around the world have attempted NFT-based projects in collaboration with outside companies in a number of areas, including collections, archiving, exhibitions, and fundraising. These attempts show the potential of NFT as a new technology to create fundamental changes in the art market and art history as a whole. This paper examines cases in which museums break away from traditional perspectives and make new attempts related to NFTs. These cases are divided into fund raising through NFT minting of collections, collection of NFT works, creation of an NFT online museum, and exhibition of NFT digital works in an offline space. Museums have also discussed several discourses related to NFTs. NFT-related issues include legal issues such as authenticity and copyright, conflict with the museum mission, limitations in accessibility and lack of professional manpower, and carbon emission and environmental issues. Based on these cases and issues, this thesis predicted the future direction of the museum's use of NFT.
