자살로 형제자매를 잃은 유가족의 경험에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 자살자의 형제자매의 사별 이후 애도경험을 탐색하였고 그 중에서 사별경험에 대한 개인 내적, 사회적, 영적으로 나누어 분석하였다. 연구 절차를 살펴보면, 3 명의 여성 참여자를 대상으로 회기 당 2 시간 소요되었다. 심층면담을 실시하고 자유회상 단계를 거쳐 자신의 경험과 관련해서 떠오르는 대로 이야기를 전개하며 진행되었다. 추가질문을 통해 언어적 보고의 내용을 확충하였다. 자료 분석 시 녹음파일과 유가족이 남긴 유품 등 다각적인 자료들이 활용되었다. 연구자가 의미진술을 여러 번 반복하여 읽고 추출한 다음 연구자들이 각각 추출한 의미진술을 논의하여 공통주제를 묶고 최종적 주제를 도출하였다. 첫째, 자살자의 형제자매들은 개인 내적으로 죽음의 공포, 자살사고, 이유 찾기, 각양각색의 애도, 거리두기를 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 소외와 사회적 지지라는 상반되는 두 핵심주제로 요약되었다. 셋째, 자살자의 형제자매들이 사건 이후 경험한 영적 측면을 분석한 결과 실존적 해석이라는 단일 핵심주제로 요약되었다. 넷째, 애도에 영향력을 행사하는 요인을 분석한 결과사건 후 경과된 시간, 정보의 개방여부, 가족에 대한 책임감, 자살자와의 심리적 관계, 원가정의 가족 역동, 그리고 참여자 가정의 가족 역동이 중요 요인으로 도출되었다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study was to explore the experience of siblings’ mourning after death of their sibling member’s suicide and to analyze their individual inner, social, and spiritual experience. This research was conducted with 3 female participants and it took 2 hour per session respectively. In-depth interviews were conducted and they were asked to express their thoughts as freely as possible through a self-reflection process. Their responses were expanded through additional questions. For the data analysis, diverse data were utilized including the participants’ recordings and articles left by suicidal individuals. The data were analyzed repeatedly first by the principal research and then by the co-researchers. Through this process, common themes were found and the final themes were categorized as follows: First, the findings reveal that sibling members of the suicides experience personal fear of death, accidents related to a suicide, finding reasons, all sorts of mourning, and distancing. Second, the two contrastive themes, social alienation and support, emerged. Third, the analysis of the participants’ mourning experience and their spiritual aspects after the incident is summarized as the sole core theme, existential interpretation. Fourth, the analysis affecting their mourning shows the following main factors; time elapsed after the incident, accessibility to the information, responsibility for the family, psychological relationship with the suicidal, family dynamics, and dynamics of the participant family.
