대학생 학업부진 및 극복 영향 요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 한국교육개발원의 한국교육종단조사 7~9차년도 데이터를 사용하여 대학생 학업부진과 극복에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 전국단위 데이터를 활용하기 위해 각 대학의 평점기준에 따라 평점을 100점 만점으로 환산하여 응답자들의 성적 백분율 점수를 근거로 다음과 같이 세 유형을 분류하였다: 대학 입학 후 지속적으로 20% 이상의 학점 백분위를 보인 집단(준거집단), 입학 후 1년 중 1회라도 20% 미만의 학점 백분위를 보인 집단(학업부진 집단), 20% 미만이었다가 다음 해에 이에서 벗어난 집단(학업부진 극복집단). 세 유형 집단에 영향을 미치는 다양한 변수들을 실증적으로 분석하기 위해 개인 변인, 가정 변인, 환경 변인 등의 독립변인을 투입하여 다항로짓분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 개인 변인에서 대학 입학 성적, 수강포기 및 철회경험, 학습활동에 대한 학습태도, 대학생활 만족도가 학업부진 및 극복에 유의한 요인으로 작용하였다. 반면, 성별, 전공 만족도, 입학유형은 개인 요인으로 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 가정 요인은 생활수준과 학부모의 학력으로 두 요인 모두 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 셋째, 환경 요인 중 대학생활 적응도는 학업부진 지속집단과 극복집단 모두에 유의한 요인으로 작용하였다. 대학소재지는 학업부진 지속집단에 유의하였 고, 대학 유형, 교우관계와 학과계열 및 학교유형은 학업부진 극복집단에 유의한 요인으로 작용하였다. 그 외 환경요인들은 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 대학생의 학업부진은 대학 졸업 이후 사회 생활에서의 성공에 영향이 있을 수 있으므로 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 몇 가지 정책 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

In this study, the factors influencing the poor academic performance and overcoming of college students were analyzed using data from the 7th to 9th years of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study(KELS) by Korean Educational Development Institute(KEDI). In order to utilize national data, three following types were classified based on respondents grade percentage scores by converting their ratings to 100 points according to each university s rating criteria: : a group that continuously showed a percentage of credits of 20% or more after entering college (the reference group), a group that showed a percentage of credits of less than 20% at least once a year after enrollment (the group with continuing underachievement in academic performance, the continuing group), a group with less than 20% credit at first, then escaped from it the following year (the group overcoming underachievement in academic performance, the overcoming group). So as to empirically analyze diverse variables affecting the three types of college students, multinomial logit analysis was conducted by introducing independent variables such as individual variables, family variables, and environmental variables. As a result of the analysis, college entrance grades, experience of giving up and withdrawing classes, learning attitudes toward learning activities, and satisfaction with college life played a significant role in their underachievement and overcoming in academic performance. On the other hand, gender, major satisfaction, and admission type were not as significant compared with other individual variables. Second, both family variables of family’s standard of living and parents’ educational background were not statistically significant. Third, among the environmental variables, adaptability to college life served as a significant factor for both the continuing group and the overcoming group of underachievement in academic performance. The location of the university was significant for the continuing group, while the university type, companionship, department type, and university type played a significant role for the overcoming group. Other environmental variables were not statistically significant. Since the underachievement in academic performance of college students may affect their success in their social life after graduating from college, several policy suggestions were made based on these results.
