부모의 진로 기대와 자녀의 진로 결정의 일치도에 대한 영향요인 분석

국문 초록

부모가 자녀의 진로에 대해 갖는 기대는 자녀의 진로 결정과 밀접한 관련이 있으며 이 둘이 일치하느냐 불일치하느냐에 따라 상호간 관계와 자녀의 실제 진로에 긍정적, 부정적인 영향이 있을 수 있다. 본 연구는 부모의 배경변인에 따라 부모의 진로 기대가 자녀의 진로 결정과 얼마나 일치하는지 확인하고, 그리고 이러한 일치도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇인지 실증적으로 밝히고자 하였다. 구체적인 분석대상은 2005년에 중학교 1학년에 입학하여 2010년에 고등학교 3학년에 재학하고 대입이나 취업 등의 진로 선택 단계에 도달한 학생 6,908명과 동수의 학부모이다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 과반수 이상의 사례에서 부모의 자녀에 대한 진로 기대와 자녀의 진로 결정이 일치하는 양상을 보였으며, 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과 학생과 관련한 변수 중에서 학생 성별과 학생 출생 순위, 학생진로활동참여의 세 가지 변수가 모두 종속변수인 일치도에 대하여 통계적으로 유의미한 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 학부모와 관련한 변수 중에서는 학부모 학력, 가계 월소득, 사교육 여부, 학부모 정서적 지원, 학부모 진학 활동참여 등의 변수가 유의미한 변수로 나타났으며, 학부모 성별과 학부모의 교육적 지원은 유의미한 영향력이 있지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 학생과 학부모의 진학활동 참여, 학부모의 정서적 지원과 자녀의 사교육 지원 등은 학생과 학부모의 진로 및 진학에 대한 적극적인 개입과 태도로서 보다 유의미한 영향력을 가지는 것으로 분석되었다. 진로와 진학에 대한 학부모와 학생 모두의 적극적인 참여와 관심이 있을 경우 이러한 일치도가 더 높게 나타나는 경향을 보이는 것으로 해석이 가능하며, 부모가 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 적극적으로 진로를 지원하고 자녀의 선택에 수용과 격려를 함께 보여주는 것이 직접적인 교육적 개입보다 유의미한 방향으로 자녀의 진로 결정과의 일치도를 높이는데 영향을 주는 것으로 보인다. 이는 자녀의 진로에 대한 지지와 격려와 같은 부모의 긍정적 양육 태도의 중요성을 시사해준다.

영문 초록

Parents’ career expectations for their children have close relations with the children’s career decision and there can be positive or negative influences on their mutual relationship and children’s actual career according to the difference for agreement between them. This research aims to identify to what extent parents’ career expectation agree with children’s career decision according to parents’ background variables and to examine the factors affecting the difference for agreement between them empirically. The respondents of 6,908 students who entered middle schools in 2005 and became the seniors in 2010 on their way to get ready for the stage of choosing their career such as college entrance or employment and the same number of their parents’ have been analyzed. The main results of the research are as follows: parents’ career expectation and children’s career decision have appeared as agreed in more than half of the cases.; as a result of logistic regression analysis, all the three independent student variables of gender, birth order and involvement in career activities have appeared statistically significant for the dependent variable, difference for agreement. As for the independent parent variables, educational level, monthly house income, involving children in private education, emotional support and involvement in career activities have appeared statistically significant, while gender and educational support have not appeared significantly influential. Variables such as both of students and parents’ involvement in career activities, parents’ emotional support and involving children in private education can be considered as more active intervention and attitude toward future career of both students and parents and it can be analyzed to have more significant influence relatively.
