국문 초록

본 연구는 지방자체단체가 주관하는 숲유치원이 어떻게 계획되고 운영되고 있는지 파악하고 그 운영상의 한계를 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 숲유치원을 주관하고 있는 A구청과 A구청의 숲유치원 프로그램에 참여하는 B기관을 참여관찰하고, A구청의 숲유치원 담당 공무원, 구청 소속의 숲해설가, B기관의 원장, 교사들을 대상으로 면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 지방자치단체가 주관하는 숲유치원은 해당구청의 담당 공무원과 숲해설가의 적극적인 노력으로 유아들에게 자연체험활동의 기회를 제공하고 있었지만, 숲해설가의 유아에 대한 이해와 유아교사의 숲에 대한 이해, 숲해설가와 유아교사간의 원활한 소통, 숲유치원 운영에 대한 인적·물적 지원이 부족하다는 한계도 가지고 있었다. 따라서 숲해설가는 유아에 대한 이해를, 유아교사는 숲에 대한 이해를 도울 수 있는 교육이 필요하며, 숲해설가와 유아교사간의 소통이 이루어질 수 있는 장을 마련해주고, 숲유치원에서의 시설 및 안전에 대한 인적․물적 지원이 제공되어야 할 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과는 지방자치단체가 주관하는 숲유치원 운영에 대한 전반적인 정보를 제공하고 국내에서 숲유치원이 확산되고 정착되어 가는데 유용한 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examined the limitations and practices of forest kindergartens for local governments. The study showed that forest kindergartens include various activities aimed at experiencing nature through the active efforts of municipal officials and forestry workers. However, infant teachers did not have enough understanding about the forest, while the forestry workers lacked understanding about the needs of the children. Communications between forestry workers and infant teachers in addition to the support for the facilities and safety was also not sufficient. Therefore, training is needed to improve forestry workers’ understanding of infants and infant teachers’ understanding of forests. Greater communition is needed between parties and individual, material supports for the facilities and safety in forest kindergartens should be provided. This study provides general information about the practice of forest kindergartens run by local governments. Forest kindergartens are a useful resource that should be spread into local communities.
