만 3세 유아들의 그림책 반복적 읽기에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 B시에 소재한 어린이집에 다니는 만 3세 유아 24명을 대상으로, 동일한 그림책을 3번 반복하여 읽어주었을 때 그들이 어떠한 전략을 사용하여 스토리를 이해하는지 살펴보는 것이다. 그 결과 첫째, 읽기를 거듭할수록 처음에 잘못 이해하였던 단어를 중심으로 질문을 하였다. 둘째, 온 몸으로 그림책과 놀이하며, 숨겨진 의미들을 발견하였다. 셋째, 이 전에 읽었던 경험이 발판이 되어 그림책 속 의미를 심층적으로 파악할 수 있었다. 결국 반복적으로 읽는 과정은 유아들의 스토리 예측을 돕고 질문을 촉진함으로써 분석적 사고를 할 수 있다는 교육적 의미를 지니고 있다.

영문 초록

Repeated interactive read-alouds is an effective read-aloud technique that gives children an opportunity to engage more actively in the reading experience. In this study, we explored how 3-year-olds responded to repeated interactive read-alouds. The participants of the study were 24 children (aged 3 year), who attended a day care center. During the first reading, when certain key elements, concepts, and words in the book were repeated, children asked questions about words whose meanings they had not understood. During the second reading, the children found hidden meanings in the book as they enacted and role-played the story, using their entire body. The third reading experience helped the children to have in-depth discussions on the meaning of the story of the picture book. In conclusion, the process of repeated read-alouds with picture books revealed unique characteristics pertaining to areas such as visual literacy and perceptual development. Thus, the repeated read-aloud technique helps children to make predictions and engage in analytical thinking by encouraging them to ask questions.
